So, my life is kind of blah right now... Iapos;m trying to graduate this spring, which means I have to do really well in my classes this year (especially math...ick). I have a few medical issues to deal with, plus Iapos;m poor and hate my job. The only reason Iapos;m still there is the fact that Iapos;ve been there for five years and can get away with almost anything.

So, some stuff thatapos;s not so depressing... Some new ships this season, and of course thereapos;s still all the others Iapos;ve collected over the years. :) The list goes as follows, in no particular order:

Cristina/Owen - Greyapos;s Anatomy (so in love with this one)
Lexie/George - Greyapos;s Anatomy
Callie/George - Greyapos;s Anatomy (while it lasted)
Barney/Robin - HIMYM (aka brOTP)
Lily/Marshall - HIMYM
Betty/Gio - Ugly Betty
Mark/Cliff - Ugly Betty
Monica/Chandler - Friends (forever the best couple on that show)
Phoebe/Mike - Friends (yay all there is to say.)
Pacey/Joey - Dawsonapos;s Creek (love love love)
Jack/Jen - Dawsonapos;s Creek (I know they were just friends, but they were soulmates and one of the best things the writers did on that show, other than having Joey and Pacey together at the end. ;) )
Morgan/Anna - Chuck
Kirby/Nico - Lipstick Jungle
Kitty/Robert - Brothers and Sisters
Jackie/Hyde - That apos;70s Show (will hate the writers forever for what they did to them)
Peter/Olivia - Fringe (You know itapos;s coming.)
Peter/Caitlin - Heroes (I am hoping desperately that they bring her back this season)
Danny/Jordan - Studio 60 (how I miss them so... :apos;( )

Gamblers Anonymous is an international organization of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other to solve their common problem and help others to recover from a gambling problem. The only requirement for GA membership is a desire to stop gambling.
The GA group is based on the Alcoholics Anonymous model which brings together people with similar addictive behaviors and uses as its structure the practice of the Twelve Steps and the Twelve Traditions.
Successful recovery from compulsive gambling in this context seems to depend on the following variables:
1. The degree of hopelessness that the member feels when he arrives. Open-mindedness to the GA program of recovery is often proportional to the desperation being experienced by the new member. If a person has already explored other methods of controlling or stopping his gambling and has been unsuccessful, he is more apt to listen to the GA method.
2. A willingness to be honest with other members about their gambling. The compulsive gambler tends to minimize the damage that their gambling has caused. This is a strategy that all gamblers use in order to live with their problem, as often the real implications of what they are doing are too horrible to contemplate. But if a member can be honest about the pain that their gambling is actually creating, their motivation will be increased to find a solution. Such honesty is possible if the member senses that GA is really offering a way out.
3. Identification with other members. In the GA context, members tell their stories about their gambling and what they have done in order to stop gambling. After awhile, it is possible to see the similarity beneath all the stories, as far as the progressiveness of the dis-ease goes and the futility of other methods used to stop gambling. What emerges from such a reading of those stories is an awareness in the new member that what he has been suffering from is actually a definable condition with a definable solution. The new member can then draw the conclusion that if those members have overcome their gambling problem, perhaps I can too. Hope for oneself is felt and this energy can be used to pursue the solution. Conversely, those members who are still at the point where they are trying to devise personal solutions to outwit their gambling or are looking for hints as to how to gamble will hear the stories in such a way so as to justify their own continued gambling, i.e., At least Im not as bad as that guy.
4. Accepting that the solution has a spiritual componet and a willingness to explore the solution in that context. In the broadest of terms, compulsive gambling can be thought of as a The gambler often finds himself acting against his best intentions and is puzzled by his seemingly powerlessness to just not gamble. The compulsion to do so is experienced as a powerful urge and seems to have a life of its own within the gamblers mind. The gambler uses his willpower to try and control the power of his compulsive gambling but is ultimately always unsuccessful. The GA program acknowledges this power and admits that it cannot be controlled by the individual. What can be done is for the gambler to acquire a stronger, competing power in order to supercede the power of gambling. This is the ultimate goal of the Twelve Steps. GA is not offering the traditional religious solution that one might associate with such a discussion but, rather, asks that the individual formulate a personal spirituality that might or might not include traditional religious componets. With all successful GA members, on some level, they have found a source of strength beyond their own unaided wills that has enabled them to stop gambling.
5. Regular attendance at meetings.

FINAL - USA 1 - 6 Italy. That's it from the Maracanãzinho. We'll be back later with a bigger wrap up. The U.S. put in a good effort today but eventually the quality of the Italians told. The U.S. goes searching for a win against Thailand on Oct. 4, so not much time to rest.

40 min - Another foul on the U.S. and Assis lines this one up. He side foots it past Richey who is caught going the wrong way.

39 min - Stewart with some more good running but he just can't get passed the tough Italian defense.

38 min - Stewart earns a corner but it deflects out of bounce of Jacobson. Just a minute to go now...

37 min - U.S. needs a goal from somewhre here, and soon...And just like that Bertoni extends the lead for the Italians. His left food drive goes into the top near post corner over Richey.

37 min - Grana puts it in from the spot kick. An unfortunate bounce for Richey there. He got a foot to it but it wasn't enough.

36 min - Chile is fouled and the U.S. with a freekick in a dangerous area. He just puts his shot wide of the goal though...There's the sixth foul on the U.S.

36 min - Jacobson backs down his man to earn the U.S. a corner.

35 min - Time out to somebody. 5:50 left on the clock.

35 min - That last goal really took a lot out of the U.S. Tozer is trying to rally his team.

34 min - Yellow card for Apple and that's five fouls for the U.S.

34 min - Hammes now with a yellow card.

33 min - Goal by Nora. He absolutely crushes a pass from a short corner by Bertoni. The ball takes an unfortunate deflection off of Wiesner and wrongfoots Richey.

32 min - Jacobsen to Stewart who sqaures the ball for Hammes. Blocked by Grana. And Italy goes up to the other end. Outrageous flick by Morgado to set up Assis but the U.S. gets back well.

31 min - 10 minutes to go and this game isn't over by any stretch...

30 min - A clever pick by Italy's Jubanski doesn't escape the Referee... And a deep ball from Naumoski finds Morris! Great save by Feller again. He's been one of the best goalkeepers in the tournament so far...

30 min - Lovely combo from Chile and Myers but Myers can't get the shot away. Yellow cards to both Chile and Jacobson, not sure what for. Well, Jacobson's was for a foul...

28 min - Richey with another save as Italy work a nice wall pass down the right flank.

27 min - Hammes now with a shot and it's deflected away by the Italian fullback. Soon after Naumoski blazes over. The U.S. is getting some looks here in the 2nd half.

26 min - U.S. doing well here and they earn another kick in deep in Italy's half. Shocking entry pass though and Italy counters, Richey with a good save.

26 min - Good play by the U.S. and Stewart finds Wiesner in the area. Glorious chance for the U.S.! Feller with a huge save for Italy though.

24 min - U.S. pressing Italy higher this half...

23 min - Off the line by Apple! A well worked freekick freed up an opportunity but Apple was there to hit the ball away. Corner to the U.S.

23 min - Italy with good possession but the U.S. is hanging tough. The game is getting more phsyical too as both Jacobson and Stewart go in tough on challenges. Richey now mixes it up with Morgado and a free kick to Italy in a dangerous spot.

22 min - Chile with a good tackl to get back for defensive cover. Italy with a corner.

21 min - And we're underway for the second half! Italy flashes a shot wide from a set piece.

2nd Half is about to start here and both teams are out.

HALFTIME - Well the U.S. took the lead but Italy fought back through two well worked goals. U.S. with it all to do in the second half. The halftime soundtrack features an Usher remix and some songs by The Ting Tings.

17 min - Wonderful cross field ball from Foglia to Morgado but his shot goes wide.

16 min - Some good play from Jacobson and Stewart and Jacobson flashes a shot just wide of the Italy goal.

15 min - The U.S. with 3 fouls to Italy's one... and the italians are knocking he ball around nicely in their half at the moment.

14 min - Italy is increasing their pressure on the U.S. here, those two goals have really energized them. The U.S. needs to get something going.

13 min - Well our internet is going in and out here, but right now it's 2-1 Italy.

7 min - Yellow card to roenband for an overzealous tackle on Fabiano.

6 min - Foglia with some fancy dribbling and he cracks a shot. The ball goes through the hands of Richey but Apple is back to clear. Corner for Italy but it comes to nothing. Frantic stuff from the Maracanãzinho!

5 min - U.S. needs to keep things close here, the Italians are looking for a quick response.

4 min - Good combo from Italy between Morgado and Zanetti, but Richey is there. He releases it quickly to Myers who is on the break and he's cynically pushed from behind by Bertoni. No card? Nonetheless the U.S. with a good opportunity. Chile to take it and his shot bounces off the wall to Rosenband at the far post! He taps it in - 1-0 U.S.!

3 min - Italy with the possession here early on but they lose it out of play and the U.S. gets a chance to regroup.

2 min - Italy hit the post and ball bounces away. Clever attempt from Morgado as he goes five-hole on Richey, but the post was on its best behavior for the U.S.

2 min - Italy with the first chance of the game as Richey is forced into a save.

1 min - And we're underway! The U.S. going from left to right...

12:28 pm - The national anthems are done and the players are ready. It's a battle of the away jerseys! The Azzuri's historic white vs. the traditional anthracite of the U.S!

12:23 pm - Here come the flags! And the FIFA Anthem! Our players are walking out now!

12:17 pm - The lineups are being announced the sweepers are sweeping and mopping the floor. The players are lining up in the tunnel as the Blog writes this, and out comes coach Tozer...

12:12 pm - Are you watching or following the game out there? The blog could use a little support, it's feeling a bit nervous, you see. Anyhow, leave a comment ask us a question, we'd love to hear from you!

12:10 pm - A few minutes until game time now, and if the U.S. can manage a victory, everybody in the group would be tied. Meanwhile the crowd loves Parangole. He's walkng around on the field to cheers.

12:03 pm Portugal has just defeated Paraguay, 3-2, in a thrilling game here at the Maracanãzinho. The stadium is jumping and lets hope some of the energy carries over to our game...just about a half hour to go.

11:55 am - Here are the starters for the U.S. vs. Italy - 12-Jeff Richey (GK), 6-Andy Rosenband, 7-Ptah Myers, 13-Pat Morris (capt.), 14-Brett Wiesner.

Denison Cabral and Jamar Beasley are unavailable for the U.S., while Pat Morris is the only active player carrying a booking.

-Well, The Blog is online...for now. It's been a bit hectic in the stadium and the game on the field is equally dramatic - it's 2-2 right now between Portugal and Paraguay.

Reno, Take II

In the afternoon on Friday, September 5, we left Reno on our way east toward Denver, where wed visit Sarahs sister Lisa in a week or two. We had planned to take a southerly route, perhaps visiting Capitol Reef National Park and Hovenweep National Monument along the way. As Sarah drove, Brian fired up the laptop, and using our mapping software (Microsoft Streets Trips), found out that a more northerly route through Salt Lake City was quite a bit shorter. On that route, we could explore Salt Lake City and visit Dinosaur National Monument, and then we could drive across Rocky Mountain National Park from the west entrance to the east. This new plan seemed just as good as the old one, so we switched plans.

In the road atlas, Brian found a national forest campground called Angel Creek that was just a few miles off I-70 and seemed like a good place to stop for the night. After a few hours of driving, we got off the highway and followed Streets Trips recommended route to the campground. The forest road that the software said to follow for five miles turned out to be just a tire track through grazing land. The route was level, though, and easily passable by Caroline, so we kept going. We got to a closed gate, and in hindsight, thats where we should have turned around. But we didnt. We opened the gate, which we assumed was there just to fence off grazing land, rather than to demarcate private property, and drove on through. We went through several more gates, and then the road started getting worse. The tire tracks got deeper, to the point where the middle of the road was a foot to two feet above the bottoms of the ruts. Caroline doesnt have that kind of ground clearance, but still we pressed onward, driving with Carolines left wheels in the middle of the road and her right wheels on the if you could call it that, on the right of the road, so she was straddling the right tire track.

Of course, a track like this doesnt really have a so really, Carolines right side was off in the weeds. The plants in the desert of Colorado are quite a bit hardier than those in, say, the forests in the Northwest, and every so often, wed hear this piercing screech as some spiny or thorny plant raked Carolines right side.

After driving about four miles, we started to lose track of the road. We had driven into a more fertile area, and our track just seemed to dead-end in a grassy field. By now, the sun was long past set, and we couldnt see anything beyond our headlight beams, but after some searching, we found a faint track through the field. We followed that and quickly found the reason that the vegetation had changed: a creek bed that ran straight across the road. The good news: It was dry. The bad news: It looked like about a two-foot sheer drop-off to get down into the creek bed, and we couldnt see the opposite side in the dark.

At this point, we were only a mile away from the end of this crazy road, so we really wanted to get past this creek bed. Brian got out of the car with his headlamp and scouted for a route. As it turned out, the drop-off into the creek bed wasnt as severe as it looked on our initial approach. And after some careful navigation through large rocks at the bottom of the creek bed, it looked like the climb out on the opposite side wasnt too bad. So Brian took the wheel and managed to successfully navigate the creek bed without bottoming out. A few more scrapes of the right side of the car and one scrape of Carolines undercarriage, and we made it to the end of the track. Our directions told us to turn right onto another forest road, which didnt look appreciably different in Streets Trips but turned out to be a paved highway! After the first five miles took us over an hour, the last two to the campground took less than five minutes.

Surveying the damage proved difficult because Caroline was so covered in dust. She had lots of lines on her right side, but many of those were just lines through the dust, while others were scratches through the clearcoat. After our next carwash, we would do another survey and discover that Caroline had quite a few new scratches. Her abusive parents force her to lead a tough life. At least her brand-new drivers door came out unscathed.

After a pleasant night, we headed out the next morning. The route back to the interstate took us further east and was entirely on paved roads we definitely should have taken that route into the campground. It would have been five miles longer, at least half an hour faster, and way less painful for Caroline.

In any case, we continued east to Salt Lake City, where wed gotten a deal for another three-night hotel stay in Draper, Utah, a little ways south of Salt Lake. We figured wed enjoy being indoors for a few more days, catch up further on our blog, run errands, etc. On Friday, we visited the SLC farmers market and then headed to a visitor information center, which happened to be right across from the capitol building.

Seneca Realm Small house at Niagara Falls

I met my son and daughter in law in Niagara Falls for the weekend - lots of fun! They convinced me I couldn't walk across bridge to Canada since I didn't have a passport or birth certificate, so I stayed behind and had a coffee at Starbucks. But I saw the Seneca Nation Casino across the street so I figured why not gamble? Last weekend I fired shotguns for 2 hrs with Nathaniel, so this weekend i figured I would gamble at a casino. So i went in, and the casino was huge, as big as a convention center. There was background music like I was entering heaven. Mostly there were slot machines, and the customers were for the most part older seniors, some with canes, over weight, and smoking - the same crowd you see at a racetrack. So I sat down by the slots that had a grand prize of a Lexus SUV, on display above us. I put in $10, played three times, and I won: whistles went off, sirens, bells, lights, I mean my machine made more noise than anyone else's. I thought I must have won the Lexus, but then again, no one was rushing up to congratulate me. The machine wanted to know if I wanted to play some more, and I selected a receipt. I put the receipt in a cashout machine, and it turned out I won $19. That is, I bet $10, and got $19 back, so I really only won $9 (they count what you bet as part of your winnings). So I left $9 richer. I gave the housekeeper who made my room at the holiday inn a $5 tip, so I only had $4 left. Thats my only experience gambling. A winner.

Ebay is an ideal place to buy anything you could ever wish for.All you have to do is sign up and a way you go (please note you have to be 18 to do this). The main thing I look for on ebay is the ace selection of CDs at really low prices,I have brought around 20 CDs in the last 6 months some for only 2 pounds-a real bargain.
A piece of advise would be that dont bid on a item unless you do intend to buy it if you win the auction.
one of the main things I like about ebay is that it is exciting when you are bidding on a item because you dont actually know if you will win it or not.Ebay is also good if you want to sell any items to earn some cash. Its really easy to set up a sellers account and the winner of the item you are selling just pays the money through ebay(into your account)or the actual bidder can send you a cheque/postal order.
Ebay is a really popular and safe environment to shop, just avoid any people with high negative feedback because they are generally time wasters.
I think its a good place for anybody to shop and it is great for students like myself to get textbooks, cds etc..at low prices.
Summary: If you like shopping online then ebay is a must.
I have left some auction prices below for MA B High Quality Remote Shutter for Nikon D1 D2 D200 D100 D1X D2Xs and other items you may be interested in.

ONLINE POKER SITES: SUFFICIENTLY SECURE

  • Oct. 4th, 2008 at 8:41 AM
apparel tennis, baseball jersey, basketball jersey, baseball card value, baseball rumor
If you are beyond the experience level of a mere novice in the world of online casino and poker sites, then one of the most appealing opportunities for you are online poker tournaments. In a regular poker game, the outcome is usually based on a complex combination of luck and skill. On the other hand, with tournaments, your skill level as a player has a much bigger role in determining the end results. So if you think you may be able to hold your own in a tournament, go for it!

As far as table games go, most veteran online casino players report that poker has the potential to be the most compelling and entertaining game around. And participating in a poker tournament increases that appeal tenfold, in addition to getting you that much closer to bigger pots of money. And just like with regular poker games you will have your choice of getting into a slow game or a faster game, depending on your preferences.

If you have a considerable amount of experience in online casinos and especially in poker, then your best bet is to immerse yourself in the slower playing games. Your skill will be a real asset to you there. Another aspect that you will have a lot of options for is bonuses. Getting involved in a tournament helps you gain access to a whole different supply of special poker bonuses. Who can resist that temptation?

With all of the perks that come with tournament play, it is important to keep in mind that the stakes are also going to be higher, accordingly. For each tournament there is a common pool in addition to the ultimate prize money package. People are attracted to online casino poker tournaments for this reason. The tournaments will bring in the high rollers who are ready and willing to lay down the big bucks in order to gain entry.

Given the high stakes of an online casino poker tournament environment, it is advisable to put a lot of consideration into each and every decision of each and every hand in a game. Every single player has a buy in and gradually, more and more players are forced to leave the game, mostly due to bankruptcy. As you play, be carefully attuned to the playing styles of your competitors. Build your strategies around their strengths and weaknesses as best as you can.
As you get deeper and deeper involved in an online casino poker tournament game, be sure to keep your chip stack at a good healthy amount because the blinds in tournament play keep mounting as the games go on. It is never fun if your chip stack gets completely obliterated early on. Trust me I speak from experience! This is the best thing you can do to stay alive in the game and work toward becoming a viable force to be reckoned with. And this is really key. If you can keep a steady, respectable stack of chips on you, your chances of sticking out the leaner times are greater. If you are able to adhere closely to this strategy and then rely on your well developed skills in the game, you should survive for quite a while.

More and more online poker sites have added tournaments to their repertoire because they are such a draw for the more moneyed, experienced players. 1.) Whatapos;s the game all about?

The game revolves around a castle and its immediate surrounding area. Your character finds himself/herself here and is unable to leave. Hidden inside the castle are five framed portraits, each one representing a different time period. Below each picture is a small red button. Should your character dare to press it he/she will be transported to the time period represented in the portrait.

2.) How is this game different from other games?

Other than offering a unique concept, weapos;re striving to be a more "audience participation" game. Though this is entirely optional, we want your help heading plots and controlling NPCs. We want everyone to work together to create exciting storylines and no one left out.

3.) What if my character is canonically dead?

If you wish to take a character that is dead in his/her canon, you may have him/her resurrected in game in a manner of your choosing.

4.) What point in canon can my character come from?

You can pick up from any point in canon, including pre- and post-canon. For example, if you want to play Dexter as a teenager, thatapos;s fine. Though keep in mind, if someone is playing Pam from the Office, and the player has decided to take her from season 1, and you come along playing Jim from the end of season 2, Pam will have no knowledge that your Jim is currently in a relationship with her. It could get confusing, or it could lead to some creative relationship interpretation.

5) How creative can I get with pre-canon characters?

You can creatively interpret your characterapos;s backstory, within the bounds of known canon. If your interpretation involves other characters (for example, if you want to say that Emma Peel and John Steed were secretly dating throughout their spy careers), you must clear it with any characters already in-game before proceeding. If a player for an affected character comes in at a later date, they must accept the bounds of your interpretation or work with you to adapt it. As this sort of thing can potentially cause problems between players, including other canon characters in your backstory interpretations is not recommended.

6.) Are original characters allowed?

Yes But only with a real life played by. Meaning an actual photograph of an actor, actress, model, or model stock photograph.

7.) Are real life people allowed?

Yes Real life characters allowed. Meaning you can actually play Bruce Willis, and not John McClane.

8.) Are historical characters allowed?

Yes you may play historical characters, too, but they must also have a real life played by. So if you plan on playing someone who was alive before photography was invented, youapos;ll have to be creative with coming up with someone to represent them.

9.) Are animated characters allowed?

Yes they are, but only with a real life played by. You may play Jesse from Team Rocket, but you must find a model to represent her. Her background and personality will remain the same.

10.) Can my character die in game?

Yes he/she can. If your character is fatally injured, or otherwise dies, he/she will remain such for seventy-two hours real time starting from his/her exact time of death. You will be unable to play or use him/her, his body will remain where he died, and his body and belongings will be exempt from all godmoding rules and can be stolen. After the seventy-two hours, your character will be resurrected (and possibly naked). He/she will be disorientated and unable to immediately recall what had happened. His/her memory will slowly return to and allow recollection of the events of his/her death. The amount of time your character has selective amnesia is entirely up to you.

11.) What happens to a character if a player drops?

If you would like to give your character a dramatic death before dropping, please feel free to do so. This character will not be resurrected unless another player decides to pick them up in the future. This allows some ambiguity as to whether or not death is permanent, and will keep characters from acting too reckless if theyapos;re just going to be "brought back anyway." If a player is cut for inactivity and is not around to choose, the character is up for use to be killed by any player who wishes to do so. If you wish your character not to be killed, he/she will simply disappear.

12) What happens if a character is picked up by another player?

This is up to the discretion of the player picking up the character. You can choose to start the character over from scratch, or pick up from where he/she left off.

Communication

1.) How can the characters communicate?

Face to face, of course, and also by using a device that all characters who enter the game are automatically equipped with. This device defies the borders of time and can be used to communicate with all players regardless of their time zone. NPCs may use the device, although they may not realize their transmission is extending far beyond what they can possibly imagine.

2.) How does the device work?

The device works a little like a cell phone with voicemail, with one major difference: transmissions going out are set on different wave lengths. So when you pick up the phone to try and reach someone specifically, it will be stored on a certain wave length only accessible via that personapos;s voice mail. If youapos;re making a general message to the entire population, it will be stored on a wave length transmitted universally to everyoneapos;s cell phone. These voice messages can be accessed whenever a character wishes and are stored on their phones permanently.

3.) Are messages to specific characters private? If my character is proficient at hacking can he/she intercept or read messages?

If designated private then messages will only go to the voicemail or voicemails of the specified character(s). No one else can access it. If your character can hack devices this must be worked out with the player whose messages you want to access, on a case-by-case basis. Your character has never seen these devices before in his/her life, and every frequency is different so it is unlikely anyone can become a superhacker in this game.

Are messages all voice or txt too?

4.) Can a conversation on the phone be real time, or does it have to be through voice mail?

If youapos;d like to have a phone conversation (or three-way) between characters happen in real time rather than through an exchange of voicemails, thatapos;s fine. But if events have happened between replies, it might be better to say they were accessed and replied to later.

5.) How do I know what frequency to dial?

The universal transmission frequency is 29.10. Dialing this will transmit your message onto everyoneapos;s phone. Think of it as dialing the entire world. Anyone can read? it.

6.) How does my character find this correct frequency?

Your character can either be told by someone who knows, or figure it out for themselves. There are hints hidden around the castle and grounds as to the correct frequency. See here to see what they are.

7.) What about dialing a character privately? How do I find out their frequency?

When a character enters the game a phone is automatically bound to them with a specific frequency. This frequency is known by the player in possession of the phone. It is listed under stored number as "YOU" and then the frequency (any combination of numbers you choose). If youapos;d like to call another player directly, you will first need to know their frequency.

8.) My character doesnapos;t want to give away his/her frequency to anyone

Thatapos;s fine, but no one will ever be able to call him/her directly.

9.) What does the cell phone look like?

Everyoneapos;s cell phone is identical, and looks exactly like this:

Though they are outwardly identical, there are some features stored in them that are unique to your player besides their personal frequency. These elements will be revealed later.

10.) My characterapos;s cell phone was destroyed, can I get another?

Travel between time periods

1)?

2.) How do the buttons work?

The buttons only transport your character through time, not space. He/she will be exactly where he/she was the moment before the button was pressed. Through what he/she sees in the surrounding area will be vastly different...

3.) Can my characters travel freely through time periods?

Yes A button for each time period will be located in each individual period. So for example, your character can move from the 11th century to the far future, without having to return to modern day first. Itapos;s completely fluid. However, there may be restrictions and lockdowns during certain game-wide plots.

4.) What are the different time periods?

Your character will start in modern day (2008). The five additional time periods are: the Jurassic period, the 11th century, the 1960s, post-apocalyptic, and the far future. However, the delineations of time here are fuzzy, and there may be some anachronistic elements to each period.

5.) Will more time periods be added?

Yes Once we get started managing the ones weapos;ve got, new ones will be added. The possibilities are limitless, and we love player suggestions.

6.) Can my character communicate with another player if theyapos;re in a different time period?

The only way a character can communicate with another in a time period different from their own is through the cell phone device. When using this device messages can be read? by all characters regardless of their current time period. Characters can always plan to meet with each other in any of the six time periods.

7.) How long does it take to travel to a time period?

Itapos;s instantaneous. As soon as your character presses the red button, heapos;s there.

8.) I still donapos;t get it

If you have any questions, feel free to email a mod and they can help you to get started.

The Home Base AKA the modern day castle

1.) How does my character end up at the castle?

Anyway youapos;d like This is completely up to player discretion.

2.) Can my character leave the castle?

Your character can leave the castle, but not the castle grounds. Which is precisely 600 acres. ;) Specifics of the grounds in each time period can be found here, along with detailed pictures. However, keep in mind that this is OOC information for the playerapos;s benefit only, and should not be automatically known by the character.

3.) Why canapos;t my character leave?

As your character nears the borders to the grounds he/she begins to feel ill. Generally they should feel light headed and otherwise nauseated, though the specifics of how your character gets sick is left up to you. As he/she approaches within five feet of the perimeter, he/she is rendered unconscious.

4.) What happens if my character falls unconscious?

Your character can only be awoken by the touch of another character. He is to remain unconscious until such event occurs.

5.) But what if no one ever finds him

Donapos;t worry, if your character is rendered unconscious from getting too close to the perimeter, his/her (DEVICE NAME) will activate a distress signal to the network transmitting an automatic message to allow everyone on the network to know what happened. This will allow your character to get help more quickly. It could also be very bad if your character is wanted, or otherwise disfavored. See here to get your message should your character fall unconscious near the perimeter.

6.) Who else lives at the castle besides player controlled characters?

The castle and grounds as your character initially sees them look totally abandoned. But are they really? See NPCs for more information.

NPC info

1.) Who controls NPCs?

For now just the mods, but in the future weapos;d like to allow players to create their own NPCs for the fun and enjoyment of everyone. As soon as we get a steady group of players there will be an announcement for those that want to play these helper characters.

2.) Can I place NPCs in my thread?

If youapos;re playing a thread in the 1960s, and youapos;d like your characters to come across a band of hippies parked out on the castle grounds, by all means go ahead and play the hippies. You can create your own journal for thread involvement, or just move them around in your thread. The only NPCs that need mod approval are reoccurring or central to a game-wide plot.

3.) Are there any rules for playing NPCs in my thread?

Your NPCs must adhere to all game rules, and must have no knowledge of the mysterious elements lurking around the castle grounds. They are entirely ignorant and do not understand the castleapos;s temporal aspects. So your bands of hippies are just bands of hippies and nothing more.

There are quite a few instances over the last few months where I have read about the trends of the hobby heading this way, or the trends of the hobby heading that way, but no one seems to really understand the true trends. The first worlders claim that the hobby is spiraling to a point where high end products will take over the low end, and their world will cease to exist. Second worlders are claiming that the hobby is losing value and that the higher end products they love to break are not as worth their time. Really, these "claims" are only just sounding the warning bell with nothing more than a thought. I dont think that either of these things are really true, but I hear them echoed more than any other idea or trend. Im curious as to why.

First off, to address the claims that high end is shortly becoming the only end, I want to say that is crap. The amount of high end products that come out every year really doesnt change. UD and DLP never really just delete a low end product and replace it with a high end one. However, because high end is a much more volatile market, the products change more often. So, when Upper Deck deletes a high end product and replaces it with another high end product, it creates more names on the market, but the number of sets each year really doesnt change. Plus, with three competing brands in football, that can seem like the price of boxes is drastically climbing, when in reality, its just every company coming out with their own version of high end. I mean, lets face it people, high end is in trouble in today's economy. Retailers are becoming more wary of higher end products because they know its only a sale until the next product comes out, and after that, they may have to dump it at a loss. Its easier to take a loss on a sixty dollar box rather than a 300 dollar box. Its why the middle products like Topps chrome and Icons are always so popular - its easier to afford the loss.

Really the trends are heading towards a bigger gap between the high end and the low end, but not in terms of the number for each. Personally I think that the middle products will start to envelop the low products, and the retail will become all that is left of low end. From there, you will have the majority of the boxes at or around 75 dollars, with the gap being pretty wide then to the few 300 dollar products and above. If you look at it, this has already started to happen. In an effort to bring more content to a person paying for that 75 dollar box, they have put out the retail low end with nothing in it to help offset the massive and growing costs of autos and memorabilia. Even the once expensive Chrome products have come towards the middle of 75 dollars to help them to sell more. Exquisite will continue to be high, but the other products will hover around that 75 dollar mark. The gap will grow.

Secondly, its pretty obvious that cards are not going to be worth as much as they used to be. As long as people have less disposable income, they wont have as much money to spend. Thankfully, content is being added to products to help offset those bigger price tags on the boxes, so to you second worlders, the value is being replaced with both quantity and in some cases quality. If you buy an expensive product, chances are that there will be a guarantee of something good in the near future. Upper Deck is already seeding top tier autos at one per case, and top RC autos at more than that, so thats a start. I would expect that to come from others in order to compete. So, it will become easier to pull something great when you decide to drop top coin on these things. I also think that the quality of the card designs has increased ten fold over the last 5 years, and really there are only a handful of repeat ugly offenders, and they are usually all from the same company.

Funny enough, I think this epitome of non-essential goods is a depression proof business, so if anything cards will only become more of a way to get away from that awful feeling that things arent going well in this country. Do I think you should go spend 5 grand on a dual logo? Fuck no. But I do think you should ride out any fears that the economy will prevent you from having an awesome collection that is worth a lot of money.

It was a year ago today that lawyers for Fresno State and former women's basketball coach Stacy Johnson-Klein concluded a two-day pre-trial hearing in her gender discrimination lawsuit against the university.
Most thought the trial would last four weeks. Instead, it went eight weeks and caused a sensation seldom if ever matched by a civil action in the central San Joaquin Valley.
On this anniversary, I think of Erica Henry. In a case sure to be a staple of Title IX histories for many years to come, Henry is the wild card, the unknown factor, the destabilizing force. Hers is the one story that can't be explained away by conventional theories of what happened to Johnson-Klein.
To review: In March 2005, Johnson-Klein was fired for allegedly violating school policies, setting in motion events that culminated with her successful lawsuit and a $9 million settlement.
Henry, a 6-foot 2-inch center from Shreveport, La., was a Bulldogs freshman in 2004-05.
The trial revolved around this contrast: Johnson-Klein's assertion of her unyielding commitment to women and equality despite the sexist opposition of Fresno State administrators vs. the university's assertion that Johnson-Klein abused her authority to such a degree that the young women in her charge were in peril.
Title IX is the federal law requiring equitable treatment of male and female athletes. In the lingo of administrators, it's all about ensuring an equitable student-athlete experience. Johnson-Klein said her behavior personified this ideal; Fresno State said Johnson-Klein's behavior corrupted this ideal.
A jury of 11 women and one man sided unanimously with Johnson-Klein.
Henry sided with Fresno State.
One piece of Henry's testimony stands out.
Johnson-Klein had a young child when the 2004-05 season began. According to trial testimony, her contract included a university-paid nanny that could accompany the team on road trips. Johnson-Klein's husband also often traveled with the team, according to testimony.
On one particular road trip, Henry testified, she was on the team bus with her teammates, waiting for Johnson-Klein to board. The coach was late. Finally, Henry said, she was summoned to Johnson-Klein's hotel room.
Her task, Henry said: Help pick up the room and pack the clothes.
According to subsequent testimony, the child had wreaked the havoc and Johnson-Klein, facing a ticking clock, sought the kindness of another to resolve a dilemma that could befall any working mother in city far from home.
A weeping Henry didn't see it that way. She said she felt used by a coach who had total control over playing time and athletic scholarships.
By February 2005, Henry said, her student-athlete experience under Johnson-Klein had deteriorated. Had Fresno State retained Johnson-Klein, Henry said, she would've left Fresno "on the next thing smoking."
Johnson-Klein's lawyers said the trial was about their client's constitutional right to equal protection of the laws.
But the long trial never explained one thing.
What part of Title IX or the Constitution authorized Henry's indentured servitude.

There was a free bowling and billiards held in bull pen in 20 th of this month form 9 to 12 pm, which was sponsered by bull pen itself.During regular days it was hard to find even few people in the area but it was almost pakced in after dark event.
Even I was intrested in billiard so I went to hang around. But I was surprised to see,all the billiard board being packed(which used to be mostly vacant before).May be all due to free events.Which symbolises the money concern of US citizens.
Firstly, I was on a queue for more than half an hour to get a billiard board vacant. Then finally there came my turn.I was playing with one of my frn sashi. It was my break.I was almost about to win the game but at the last hour I did a foul and he won. Then he challanged me a game for a Pizzz. Now that was more exiting. Both playing under pressure was tremendously good experience. But he was far better to play with me.Then I lossed a Pizza.
Getitng down with the game I went to Bowling which I had never done before. However we waited there for 20 minutes. Then we statred playing,I had four strike eventhoug my friend got over me.
Then it was about to be midnight and the time for CSU to close. Then the game was over and we came back home.
I was really a good experience being there.I got to see everyone enjoying the game. And it was really a cool weekend.

And my fucking blog is pink. What the fuck was I thinking?

"Are you sick? You don't look sick. Just tired and bitter."

~Jack Nicholson, As Good as it Gets

I don't know what it is about the wee hours of the morning that make me want to write about my life. I don't know what it is about one am that makes me start spewing vile and depressing things into the blog that looks like the bedroom of a sixth-grade girl.

I have gotten scared of dreaming.

I have started waking up panicked, and unable to remember why.

Three nights ago, I took a Valium before I went to bed. Woke up feeling like a different person. Of course, I woke up feeling like a person who'd had at least twelve hours of sleep. But who's counting anymore? We have become a sleepless society. Fuck fossil fuels. What this country really runs on is caffeine, but that's a renewable resource, and of course nobody cares about it. For all I know, those two Rockstar Energy drinks a day for the last two years could have made me sterile, not to mention the massive doses of B12 I take to keep me awake at work.

Not that I'm using my sperm that much these days. Which brings us around to the real reason I'm awake at one in the morning with nothing better to to than blog.

Don't get me wrong. I've slept around in my time. Around the park, around my dorm, around several kitchens and various public places in Arkansas...you get the picture. And it's not like I've been completely deprived of sexual contact over the last two years. I haven't. But I have not had sex, actual sex, in almost two years. I also have not had a meaningful relationship with a sane, rational, non-drug-addicted human being my own age in that time. Or ever, really.

Bad relationship choices are getting me, too. Again, don't get me wrong, I've been with a couple of wonderful guys, including one who, if he hadn't had some other issues we won't go into here, treated me like the Queen of Sheba. But looking back, there is a whole lot more "what the fuck was I thinking," and not nearly enough "God, I'd take him back in a second."

I think I spend too much time living for those little moments of glory when love conquers all: personality defects, substance abuse, psychological and emotional abuse, sexual incompatibility, all of it. Here's an example of what I'm talking about.

I was with this guy we'll call Trent. Cute. Amazingly talented, with a huge Broadway voice. One night, we were mildly stoned, and we go blazing into the parking lot on campus, The Rock Horror Picture Show blaring, and we jump out of the car, strip our shirts off, and start dancing together, singing the Time Warp, having the time of our lives, not caring about anything else in the world nothing but us and the music. One of the most amazing moments I ever had, in one of the worst, most abusive relationships I've ever endured. How I avoided killing him is still something I wonder about to this day.

But I did. And, oddly enough, he was the last person I slept with.

Funny how moments stick in your mind, even more than the person. I can barely remember his face now. I can't remember his voice. Just the feel of his skin against mine on a cool September evening, a gentle kiss, and spinning away as the melody caught us again, hands clasped, nothing in the world but him, and me...and the music.

I am hoping you were able to tune in to the Fire against LA last night on ESPN 2. If you did that means in Houston you have electricity back. As for those of you in our hurricane stricken city and around the country what did you think? Here are my thoughts:
What we needed to know heading into this gamw was that Chicago was a team with serious issues coming into last nights game.
There proud defense had been getting riddled with goals and they had lost 3 out of 4 and the question of even making the playoffs has come up.
In Houston they were emotionless a few weeks ago and last Sunday were embarrassed by FC Dallas to the point that they were booed. (Which by the way, we need more booing of home teams if you dont think your team is putting in the EFFORT).
The
IAN MC
IDE trade has turned into a new coaching challenge for DENIS HAMLETT that needs to be figured out quickly. More on that in a minute.
Back to HAMLETT he made some interesting moves last night that could reap benefits. The GALAXY may not be the team to judge these moves on just yetCUAUHTEMOC BLANCO is fatigued from the long season and was moved into a deeper role behind MC
IDElimit his running and hope to get plays out of him. They did, he had less influence in the game overall and you sometimes wondered if he was there yet in the end he produced a goal and a beautiful flick that unbalanced the LA defense and led to a CHRIS ROLFE goal. Two plays, two goals, economical running and HAMLETT looks like a genius. Overall Chicago defending better but one wondered if LANDON DONOVAN was even at TOYOTA PARK last night? GALAXY attack for the most part tame and you have to credit the FIRE yet the GALAXY have not been the best of road teams.
The goals CHICAGO scored clearly all came off poor defending from LA. The first CHICAGO goal ROLFE was allowed to move his away to the top of the box. A feeble ANTE JAZIC, hesitant defenders who clearly did not look confident or protective of this area of the field and Rolfe is allowed to shoot. 1-0 FIRE
The second FIRE goal gets created because of the poor communication between JOSH WICKS and LA defenders BLANCO sticks it in and empty net. Gifted goal 2-1
The third goal is a BLANCO backheel with a sucked in center back taken out of the play and ROLFE is found and scores his second 3-1
The overall night was exciting with a packed house at TOYOTA PARK and the place rocked. Tremendous atmosphere thanks to the arrival of BECKHAM, the playoffs looming and the FIRE fans lived up to it in a big way.
MC
IDE TRADE REMAINS AN ISSUE
Here is why..As a target player
IAN MC
IDE last night was wandering around aimlessly almost disconnected from his team. He got a little service from JUSTIN MAPP who remains in my humble opinion the key to McBrides (run of the play) future in Chicago. He has had only a handful of balls in front of him to attack since his arrival in Chicago. This is his lifeblood and you can sense his frustration
To beat the better MLS teams the FIRE are going to need to get something out of the legendary US striker. The Dynamo, Revolution and Crew will not present and gift opportunities to the Fire like they got last night if they encounter them upon getting into the playoffs .
DENIS HAMLETT has to pray that MAPP can find some of the best soccer of his career or MC
IDE and his impact will not include goal scoring.
This is a trade that is still being worked out but credit Hamlett for coming up with something different last night pushing BLANCO higher up the field. Mapp and Rolfe as wide players in midfield must bring it in the attack from wide areas in order to get the best out of McBride. In short the team needs more width in their attack. Playing both Mapp and Rolfe wide brings some questions with the balance of defending and attacking in midfield which teams have identified.
A simplified version of what I think are the FIRE issues.
Its all getting interesting. As for LA the win at home against DC was a nice moment of hope, maybe a tease. Cant see this team making the playoffs even with Donovan and Beckham.
Has McBride been effective in your eyes and is he getting the correct support.

apparel tennis, baseball jersey, basketball jersey, baseball card value, baseball rumor
To give you an idea of how close we are to the area affected the worst by Ike, League City sits just west of Kemah and only 20 miles NW of Galveston. Its right off Galveston Bay so you can imagine there were parts of the area that got hit pretty hard.
Clear Lake Shores is a little island separated from the mainland by an inlet, and it was as recent as late this week that police were restricting access to the island for residents only. The guards were gone today so we were able to get onto the island and help one of Marks co-workers, and to get to her house we had to dodge massive piles of damaged personal belongings ranging from couches to refrigerators and pictures. Not only that, but we passed a multitude of sunken boats and yachtsand we passed some houses that had yachts sitting in their yards, at the intersections of roads, etc. Pretty surreal.
We helped Marks co-worker Nancy remove plywood that she had used to board up her stained glass windows and also helped hand out some Salvation Army meals to the neighbors who were still throwing stuff out onto piles for dump trucks to come by and pick up. We met many neighbors and they are all great people, and I can tell you if there is one positive that comes out of a crisis like this, its the fact that people band together and help each other. That was really evident today and it was neat to be a part of it.
After that was over, we took a little drive through the town of Kemah and saw the Kemah Boardwalk, which to say the least is not open for business. After that we went through Seabrook and saw even bigger piles of furniture, clothing, refrigerators, tree limbs, you name it. And the neighborhoods smell horribleall the mold from the water damage has a sickening smell to it. As such the folks cleaning up were wearing dust respirators and taking multiple trips back and forth.
You get the feeling that in effect the stories of peoples lives up to before Ike hit are what is sitting on the side of the road when you drive by, and thats really sobering. It hit me hard when I saw a pile of toys and stuffed animals in one familys yard and you know there is a kid in there whose young mind isnt ready to even begin comprehending something like this. Its overwhelming to a point just to think about that.
Even two weeks after Ike hit, a lot of the neighborhoods we passed through still have no electricity or running water. As a result, schools have opened up their gymnasium showers for free, but as for living arrangements, its so hot in some of the houses that the people are living in tents in their front lawns. As we passed Dolphin Avenue in Seabrook today I saw a young woman with her child sitting in a tent, and staring blanklyas if they just wait it out and time will heal everything.
The most eerie thing I saw today was an entire apartment complex gutted, with cyclone fence constructed around it. Instead of being full of cars, the parking lot was full of mattresses, splintered wood, cabinets, more tree limbs, personal belongings just a mess. The place had been declared uninhabitable to the point residents cannot even re-enter to retrieve their personal belongings. What a nightmare.
We passed houses with large spray painted red circles with an X in the middle. Just add two and two together on that oneno one will ever live in those houses again.
We helped some more folks over in Pasadena remove their fenceposts and I pruned some tree limbs that were looking pretty ugly, all the while fending off a neighbors mini-pinscher. Hey, if helping someone means helping them get their backyard to some sort of normalcy then so be it. After we were done there we ate at a barbecue joint, and I stuffed myself on a pulled pork sandwich and some good fries.
Tonight Mark and I just hung out, and headed to a movie theater to go see Eagle Eye. It was alright.
On the agenda for tomorrow, and this will be interesting, is that Oak Meadows Community Worship Center (Marks church) has decided to have church. Praise God! Only thing is, there is no electricity and no A/C in the building. The pastor has suffered a health setback so this means Mark gets to moderate the service. It should be a good one, and their first since the hurricane hopefully it provides a touch of normalcy to some people whose lives have been topsy turvy over the past two weeks.
Well more than likely use tomorrow to ask folks from their church if they need help with anything and just give them a hand. Im sure well receive a few requests.
I have shot some decent photos, but alas, Mark does not have Wi-Fi in his apartment and even though my laptop is tethered to my iPhone, the data network is horribly spotty for obvious reasons. The best connection I can get is GPRS, which for you non-tech gurus is roughly the equivalent of dial-up speeds.
Thanks for the prayers, its been cool down here so far, and I am driving back up on Tuesday.

Poker Trillion and Boss Media continue to battle each other in the courts and the press. Poker Trillion issued a press release stating they had won a legal judgment requiring Boss Media to shut down its servers in September, and indicated that player funds might be at risk.
Boss Media responded with their own press release assuring players that their funds are secure and cannot be seized by any courts. Read the full response by Boss Media below:
Boss Media assures player funds and no disruption in services
In relation to the statements made by Poker Trillion August 18 (“Trillion Limited -v- Boss Media Malta Limited and Boss Media AB”), Boss Media has issued the following statement.
Poker Trillion’s recent comments are a reckless attempt to support a legal action that is without merit and initiated as retribution for their dismissal from the Boss Media network. To be clear, player funds are not affected by the current proceedings. All players’ funds are held separately under the control of the Malta Lotteries and Gaming Authority and cannot be seized by any court.
Poker Trillion is a former customer of Boss Media who was terminated because of rake back violations. They have since then repeatedly tried to disrupt the Boss Media business through the dissemination of groundless rumors. In April 2008 Poker Trillion alleged in a press release a claim that among other things, Boss Media player funds were frozen. The allegations were false but typical of the type of tactics employed by Poker Trillion.
While there has been no hearing on the merits of the Poker Trillion suit, there have been preliminary hearings on the matter. Boss Media has assured that adequate security is provided in Malta in the event of an award of damages against it which we believe to be unlikely.
Boss Media is currently exploring various legal options regarding our Maltese assets and can assure that Boss Media has the requisite assets in place to ensure that our business will continue to operate with the highest standards. In the extremely unlikely event that any Malta operations would be affected, Boss Media have high-performance back-up systems in place to ensure continued service to all our customers and their players.

Tonight, we were out in a neighborhood selling Cub Scout popcorn and Franklin forgot to collect a check from a sale. So, we returned to the neighborhood and sent Franklin to ask about the check (the family was still playing outside in their driveway). We were waiting in the car directly across the street from their driveway. When he had collected the check, we warned him to watch for cars - there were a couple coming down the street it was beginning to get dark. One car passed from the north. Two cars were coming together from the south. One car passed.

Franklin darted out into the street.

Right in front of the second car - not just a car, but a rather large SUV. My heart stopped. A life flashed before my very eyes that was not my own. Fortunately, the brakes on the SUV (and horn) worked rather well and they were able to stop in time. Wow. All of us are a little shaken up and decided to call it a night.

Thank you, God, for miraculously making the brakes work extra well on the SUV. Honestly, I believe in miracles and by the speed the vehicle was traveling and the timing that Franklin ran out, I don't think the vehicle should have been able to stop in time. Praise be to God!!

Now I sit here 30 minutes later... waiting for my pulse to slow down. Praying that my kids will remain safe for many, many years to come. Grateful for the joy they bring to my life.

Josh: Up here in Seattle, I'd love to see Portland get one of the teams -- although it's probably a bit of a long shot. It'd continue a long-lived and emotional rivalry between the two cities up here in the Pacific Northwest.

Portland calls itself Soccer Town U.S.A. and I'm sure the people there would embrace the team. The Timbers of the USL are a great draw. The city has only one other professional franchise, the Trailblazers of the NBA, and the league schedules are complete opposites. Not to mention no big colleges. So I'm confident the stands would be full and it would be a great fit.

Even if they need some public money, I believe they'd get it. Plus, MLS teams could go two-for-one on flights up here.

For the second team I'd say either St. Louis or Montreal. I could say Vancouver, but that's just getting greedy for the Northwest.

Another team in the Midwest seems a bit redundant, so I'll settle for Montreal. Some of the same arguments for Portland apply. It's a large market without a lot of competition from other professional sports teams. The NHL schedule is also opposite to MLS.

Plus, besides crazy hooligans, the other Canadian franchise is doing pretty well for itself.

Dave: As a USL club supporter, I'd like to see Vancouver and Portland get in next, because that would save my Carolina Railhawks a whole lot of money in travel costs. In fact, if USL clubs on the East Coast never have to travel further west than St. Paul and Austin, that has the potential to make USL even more competitive with MLS.

I'm wondering how much the success of USL clubs the CONCACAF Champions League will affect some cities' interest in moving up to MLS. Look at Montreal, for example. The Impact already have a 13,000-seat stadium that fills up regularly. They only have to outplay Vancouver and
Toronto a couple of times a year to get to the CONCACAF Champions League, and they look like a favorite to get through to the CCL knockout stage this year on current form. Would they trade that for a salary cap, a smaller roster and a visit from David Beckham once a year? Would that even make sense from an economic standpoint?

For U.S. cities, it probably would. Imagine for a moment, though, if a few millionaires with money to burn decided to buy into USL instead of MLS. After all, you could build a USL-1 club and a decent stadium from the ground up for far less than the $30M that MLS is asking for an
expansion fee, and you'd probably have enough left over to build a side quite capable of winning the U.S Open Cup and getting to the Champions League -- again, without the salary and roster constraints of MLS, where teams aren't deep enough to handle success.

You'd have to think that MLS has no choice but to increase its salary cap and roster size limit just to prevent something like that from happening.

ü75: If the MLS remains at it is set up now, I'll say that Portland and St. Louis deserve their shot. But I'll give myself some wiggle room in possibly adding a third to my argument.

First of all, I just want to posit that I think MLS will not become a top tier league unless it decides to regionalize. The US is a vast country, and too much of any potential profit goes to travel. That money could instead be used to lure CONCACAF's top players away from their national leagues, and to keep the American second-choice, those who currently go to, say, Denmark, within MLS. Without going too far down the road, I'll just say that the American big four --the leagues that can afford nationwide travel--started in that way. NBA in the Midwest, NFL the same as well as east coast, MLB was mostly an east coast enterprise, while NHL (in here for the sake of argument), had their Original Six all in close proximity to the Canadian-American border. When one considers that one matchup considered to be a regional rivalry--Chicago-Columbus--involves greater travel than the EPL's longest roadtrip--Portsmouth-Sunderland--you can see how the breadth of our country makes it hard for real rivalries to develop.

Since our last submission, the United States has enacted or begun to undertake new laws, policies, and practices that reflect the continuing failure of the U.S. to fully accept its obligations under the Convention against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment. We outline here some of those developments, and hope the Committee will consider these matters as well. We also wish to apprise the Committee of relevant new research that Human Rights Watch has completed since our last submission.

I. Detainee Treatment Act (Articles 1, 2, 10, 11, 13, 14 and 16)

In December 2005, President George W. Bush signed into law the Detainee Treatment Act (DTA). On the positive side, the DTA includes the McCain amendment, which prohibits the use of torture and cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment by any U.S. official or employee operating anywhere in the world. It also sets the Army Field Manual on Intelligence Interrogation as the standard for all interrogations carried out by the Department of Defense.

Unfortunately, the DTA raises important new concerns. The DTA includes a provision, known as the Graham-Levin amendment, that precludes detainees at Guantanámo Bay from bringing any future challenge to their ongoing detention or conditions of confinement before the courts.

In ongoing litigation, the administration has taken the position that the Graham-Levin amendment precludes detainees at Guantanamo Bay from challenging in federal court the use of torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment. If the courts of appeal agree with this position and uphold the amendments constitutionality, the gains from the McCain amendment will be significantly vitiated, with victims of abuse held at Guantanámo having no independent legal forum in which to seek to vindicate their rights. Denying these individuals the opportunity to redress such abuse violates the U.S.s obligations under Article 13, 14, 16 of the Convention.

The United States also continues to circumvent its obligations under the Convention and undermine the McCain amendment by defining torture in a manner that is inconsistent with the Conventions definition of torture. Of particular concern, the United States has failed to denounce a type of mock drowning, as a form of torture or cruel and inhuman treatment. In an interview with ABC news on November 29, 2005, CIA Director Porter Goss refused to state that waterboarding was an impermissible interrogation technique.

Human Rights Watch is also concerned that planned revisions to the Army Field Manual on Intelligence Interrogation, which will reportedly include a classified annex, will also undercut the gains of the McCain amendment. Given that military personnel have been authorized to use abusive interrogation techniques against terrorist suspects in the past, and given the administrations continued refusal to denounce waterboarding as torture, Human Rights Watch is worried that the contents of this annex will allow for practices that violate the prohibition against torture and other abuse. Human Rights Watch hopes that the Committee will inquire of the United States as to the need for and scope of interrogation techniques that will be included in the classified annex.

Moreover, the United States has also never stated what steps if any it has taken to ensure compliance with the provisions of the McCain amendment by the Department of Defense and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). The McCain amendment does not provide a mechanism for individual victims of torture and abuse to bring civil court cases to seek redress for violations of the amendment. As a result, the administrations role in internally monitoring and enforcing the amendment takes on heightened importance. Has the CIA issued and promulgated new interrogation guidelines in response to the passage of the McCain amendment? How are the new rules communicated to agents and contractors in the field? What steps is the United States taking to monitor and enforce these obligations?

Our concerns in this respect are magnified by the Presidents signing statement issued at the time the McCain amendment became law, in which the President suggested that his powers as Commander-in-Chief trumped any restrictions on the use of torture and cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment imposed by the amendment.

II. Use of Evidence Obtained Through Torture (Article 15)

The Detainee Treatment Act includes a troubling provision that appears to sanction the use of evidence obtained through torture. Specifically, the DTA requires the Combatant Status Review Tribunals and Annual Review Boards (military bodies convened to evaluate the status of detainees at Guantanámo Bay) to assess whether statements from the detainee were obtained through coercion and then assess the probative value of the statement. The implication of this rule is that statements obtained through torture or cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment could be used as evidence if they have sufficient probative value. Moreover, there is no prohibition on the use of statements of other witnesses against the detainees that are obtained through torture or other coercion. According to Pentagon documents, Mohammed Al-Qahtani accused 30 fellow prisoners of being Osama bin Laden's bodyguards -- after Qahtani was reportedly tormented by weeks of sleep deprivation, isolation and sexual humiliation.

Somewhat more positively, the Pentagon released a Military Commission Instruction in April that bars the use of evidence obtained through torture in any of the military commission proceedings at Guantanamo Bay. However, the Instruction falls far short of what is required under the Convention. It does not bar the use of evidence acquired by abusive interrogations that fall short of torture but nonetheless violate the prohibitions against cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment. It is also unclear how evidence acquired through torture would be excluded in practice. The Instruction does not oblige the prosecution to ascertain and disclose that evidence was obtained through torture. Nor does it establish who has the burden of proof in a case where the defendant raises a challenge to evidence on the grounds that it was obtained through torture. If the burden is placed on the defendant, without a concomitant obligation on the prosecution to disclose, this will be a meaningless prohibition. It will be extremely difficult, if not impossible, for a defendant to corroborate a claim of torture or abuse, without the assistance of an independent investigation by the prosecution who, unlike the defense, has access to the interrogators and interrogation logs.

Another area of concern is the recent case that appears to turn a blind eye to the use of evidence based on torture. In November, Ahmed Omar Ali was convicted on terrorism conspiracy charges and subsequently sentenced to thirty years in prison. At trial, the government relied extensively on a confession made by Ali while he was detained in Saudi Arabia. Ali maintains that he was tortured, beaten, whipped, and ultimately coerced into confessing. The court, however, denied the defense teams request to present evidence of scars on his back suggesting that he had been tortured. It also precluded the defense from presenting general evidence regarding Saudi Arabias poor human rights record on torture, instead taking at face value Saudi officials statements denying the existence of torture in Saudi Arabia. In so doing, they ignored U.S. Department of State reports of widespread abuse of prisoners by the Saudi Arabian government.

III. (Articles 2, 5, 1, 13, 14, 16)

In April, John Negroponte, Director of National Intelligence, acknowledged to media sources that the Central Intelligence Agency continues to hold approximately three dozen al-Qaeda suspects in secret overseas prisons. He maintained that the United States is likely to keep them in captivity for as long as the war on terror continues. These detainees are effectively denied access to the International Committee of the Red Cross, and subjected to treatment and interrogation that is not monitored by any court or independent entity. The only plausible reason for these detainees is that the United States wants to keep their treatment and conditions of confinement secret presumably because it includes torture and abuse.

Notably, the State Department, in its recent Annual Country Reports on Human Rights Practices (released on March 8, 2006 and covering events in 2005), condemned Belarus, Burma, China, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Nepal, North Korea, Philippines, Russia, Sudan, Syria, Uzbekistan, and Zimbabwe for holding individuals in incommunicado detention and for engaging in

Human Rights Watch hopes that the Committee will vigorously question the United States about its detainees and the use of practices that it rightly condemns when engaged in by other nations.

IV. Diplomatic Assurance and Rendition to Torture (Article 3)

The United States continues to promote its policy of relying on diplomatic assurances as a safeguard against a return to torture. In December, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice stated: The United States has not transported anyone, and will not transport anyone, to a country when we believe he will be tortured. Where appropriate, the United States seeks assurances that transferred persons will not be tortured. But the United States does not have any meaningful mechanism to monitor these assurances even when the individual is being sent to a country with a known record of engaging in torture. Moreover, there do not appear to be any opportunities for individuals to formally challenge their rendition or transfer on the grounds that the diplomatic assurances are not likely to provide sufficient protection from torture. Despite numerous examples in which diplomatic assurances were secured and individuals were subjected to torture anyway, the United States continues to rely on these unenforceable assurances.

(a) Past Cases

The Committee is already well aware of the highly publicized case of Maher Arar, a Canadian citizen who was detained by the United States. in September 2002. U.S. immigration authorities held him for two weeks, during which time he was unable to challenge either his detention or imminent transfer to a country likely to torture him. Relying on diplomatic assurances from Syria, the United States then flew Arar to Jordan, where he was driven across the border to Syria and detained there for ten months. The United States relied on the Syrian assurances despite repeated statements from Arar to immigration authorities that he would be subject to torture if sent to Syria. Arar reports that he was beaten by security officers in Jordan and tortured repeatedly, often with cables and electrical cords, during his confinement in a Syrian prison.

But the Arar case is not the only instance in which someone in United States custody has been rendered to torture.

Another example is that of Mamdouh Habib, who was arrested in Pakistan in 2001 and transferred by U.S. officials to a prison in Egypt where he says he was tortured with electric shocks until he fainted, kicked, punched, beaten, and rammed with what he describes as an electric cattle prod. Dr. Hajib al-Naumi, Qatars former justice minister provides corroboration for Habibs account. Dr. al-Naumi states that contacts of his in Egypt told him that Habib was in fact tortured. He was interrogated in a way which a human cannot stand up We were told that he -- they rang the bell that he will die and somebody had to help him.

An additional case is that of Mohammad Saad Iqbal Madmi, who was arrested in Jakarta allegedly at the request of the CIA and flown to Cairo, where he says he was held for 92 days and severely tortured with electrodes. Madmi was subsequently sent from Egypt to Afghanistan and then to the U.S. detention facility at Guantanamo Bay. Other detainees in Guantanamo Bay have given similar accounts to the media and to their attorneys of being transferred to a third party country and tortured before being sent to Guantanamo.

Presumably the United States followed its stated policy of reliance on diplomatic assurances before it sent either Habib or Madmi to Egypt. Alternatively, it rendered these individuals to Egypt without such assurances despite the State Departments own finding that [t]orture and abuse of prisoners and detainees by [Egyptian] police, security personnel, and prison guards remained common and persistent.

Human Rights Watch hopes that the Committee will ask the United States whether it obtained diplomatic assurances in these cases. If not, why not, given the evidence of persistent torture and abuse of detainees. And if so, what did they do to follow up to ensure that these detainees were not subject to torture?

(b) Future cases

Human Rights Watch is extremely concerned about the potential for large-scale reliance on diplomatic assurances in future transfers of individuals out of Guantanamo Bay. There is growing international pressure on the United States to close Guantanamo Bay. The United States has begun making public statements that it has slated 14 detainees eligible for release and 120 for transfer to their home country.

There is no administrative or legal mechanism, however, for a detainee at Guantanamo Bay to challenge his transfer to a country on the grounds that he would be in danger of torture and that diplomatic assurances are not likely to provide sufficient protection from torture. Prior to the passage of the DTA, some detainees were able to raise such claims in federal court as part of their habeas challenges. In several cases, the federal court required the government to give 30-days notice prior to any such transfer. Now, the administration has taken the view that the DTA cuts off even this limited avenue of review for the detainees.

V. Lack of Accountability (Articles 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 16)

Human Rights Watch, Human Rights First, and the Center for Human Rights and Global Justice at NYU School of Law have jointly undertaken a Detainee Abuse and Accountability Project (DAA Project) to collect and analyze information about allegations of detainee abuse in U.S. custody in Afghanistan, Iraq, and the Guantanamo Bay detention facility; and to assess what actions if any were taken in response, from investigations to, where appropriate, disciplinary actions and punishments. These findings have just been released in a report published on April 26, 2006. Among the findings are the following:

There are over 330 cases in which U.S. military and civilian personnel are credibly alleged to have abused or killed detainees. These cases involve at least 600 U.S. personnel and over 460 detainees. Allegations have come from U.S. facilities throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and at Guantánamo Bay.

Only fifty-four military personnelfewer than ten percent of the more than 600 U.S. personnel implicated in detainee abuse casesare known to have been convicted by court-martial. Forty of these individuals have been sentenced to prison time, but only a small number have resulted in significant prison time. Many sentences have been for less than a year, even in cases involving serious abuse. Of the hundreds of personnel implicated in detainee abuse, only ten people have been sentenced to a year or more in prison.

Of the hundreds of allegations of abuse collected by the DAA Project, only about half appear to have been properly investigated. In numerous cases, military investigators appear to have closed investigations prematurely or to have delayed their resolution. In many cases, the military has simply failed to open investigations, even in cases where credible allegations have been made.

DAA Project researchers found over 400 personnel have been implicated in cases investigated by military or civilian authorities, but only about a third of them have faced any kind of disciplinary or criminal action. And even in cases where U.S. military investigations have substantiated abuse, military commanders have often chosen to proceed with weaker non-judicial forms of disciplinary action instead of criminal prosecution.

No U.S. military officer has been held accountable for criminal acts committed by subordinates under the doctrine of command responsibility. That doctrine provides that a superior is responsible for the criminal acts of subordinates if the superior knew or should have known that the crimes were being committed and failed to take steps to prevent them or to punish the perpetrators. Only three officers have been convicted by court-martial for detainee abuse; in all three instances, they were convicted for abuses in which they directly participated, not for their responsibility as commanders.

The CIA has investigated several cases of abuse involving its personnel, and reportedly referred some individuals to the Department of Justice for prosecution. But few cases have been robustly investigated.

Out of twenty civilians, including CIA agents, referred for criminal prosecution for detainee abuse by the military and the CIA since 2002, the Department of Justice has prosecuted just one civilian contractor. Two of the cases have been closed for insufficient evidence, and the other seventeen remain under investigation. The Department of Justice has not indicted a single CIA agent for abusing detainees.

One case that particularly highlights the failure of accountability is that of Mohammad al-Qahtani. Human Rights Watch has obtained an unredacted copy of al-Qahtanis interrogation log, detailing interrogations from a six-week period from November 2002 to January 2003. The interrogation log reveals that al-Qahtani was subjected to a regime of physical and mental mistreatment from mid-November 2002 to early January 2003. For six weeks, he was intentionally deprived of sleep, forced into painful physical positions (known as stress positions) and subjected to forced exercises, forced standing, and sexual and other physical humiliation, including the administration of a forced enema. In 2005, the Judge Advocates General of the U.S. Army, Navy and Marine Corps told the U.S. Senate Committee on Armed Services that the techniques used on al-Qahtani violated the U.S. Army Field Manual on Intelligence Interrogation, and would have been illegal if perpetrated by another country on captured U.S. personnel.

In December 20, 2005, the Army Inspector General, completed a report, obtained by salon.com in April 2006, that investigated the allegations of abuse in the al-Qahtani case. The report contains a sworn statement by Lt. Gen. Randall M. Schmidt that implicates Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld in the abuse of detainee Mohammad al-Qahtani. Gen. Schmidt, who conducted an investigation into the case in early 2005 that included two interviews with Rumsfeld, describes the defense secretary as being personally involved in al-Qahtanis interrogation. Gen. Schmidt describes Rumsfeld as talking weekly with General Geoffrey Miller, then a senior commander at Guantanamo, about the interrogation of al-Qahtani.

The report findings and recommendations were rejected by the head of U.S. Southern Command, Gen. Bantz J. Craddock, who said in July 2005 that the al-Qahtani interrogation did not violate military law or policy. As a result, neither Secretary Rumsfeld, General Miller, nor any of the interrogators who took part in the interrogations have been criminally investigated or made to account in any way for their actions.

VI. Lethal Injection (Articles 13, 14, and 16)

Thirty-seven of the thirty-eight death penalty states and the federal government have adopted lethal injection as the procedure by which the death penalty is administered; for nineteen states it is the only legal method of execution. Human Rights Watch has just completed a report examining these practices, which finds that the states have failed to develop methods of lethal injection that will, in accordance with international law, reduce to the greatest extent possible the risk of pain and suffering during the execution. Indeed, there is growing evidence suggesting that in a number of cases the method used may have caused an agonizing death.

In the standard method of lethal injection used in the United States, the prisoner lies strapped to a gurney, a catheter is inserted into his vein with an intravenous line attached. A series of three drugs is injected into his vein by executioners hidden behind a wall. A massive dose of sodium thiopental, an anesthetic, is injected first, followed by pancuronium bromide, which paralyzes voluntary muscles, but leaves the prisoner fully conscious and able to experience pain. A third drug, potassium chloride, quickly causes cardiac arrest, but the drug is so painful that veterinarian guidelines in the United States prohibit its use unless a veterinarian first ensures that the pet to be put down is deeply unconscious. No such precaution is taken for prisoners being executed.

Although supporters of lethal injection believe the prisoner dies painlessly, there is mounting evidence that prisoners may have experienced excruciating pain during their executions. Logs from recent executions in California, and toxicology reports from recent executions in North Carolina, suggest prisoners may in fact have been inadequately anesthetized before being put to death. This should not be surprising given that corrections agencies have not taken the steps necessary to ensure a painless execution. The sequence of drugs and a method of administration used were created three decades ago, and were then adopted unquestioningly by state officials with no medical or scientific background. Little has changed since then. As a result, prisoners in the United States are executed by means that the American Veterinary Medical Association regards as too cruel to use on dogs and cats.

Human Rights Watch has found that none of the states that employ lethal injection consulted medical experts to ascertain whether the original three-drug sequence could be adapted to lessen the risk of pain to the prisoner by using other drugs or methods of administering them. Human Rights Watch opposes capital punishment in all forms as inherently cruel. But until the 38 death penalty states and the federal government abolish capital punishment, they have an obligation to develop methods of execution that will reduce, to the greatest extent possible, the condemned prisoners risk of mental or physical pain and suffering. Human Rights Watch hopes that the Committee will question the U.S. about its failure to ensure that the method of lethal injection does not cause needless agony.

country.
The critical expertise for a decision-maker is just that, their experience in making irrevocable decisions. Its the fact that the decisions dont allow that calls to question the character, values, philosophies, and fundamental nature of candidates.
Barack Obama has repeatedly shown that he cannot or will not make critical decisions. He votes more often than not, rarely makes clear statements of what exactly should take place, and has never indicated what his underlying philosophy is for making decisions.
The reason Sarah Palin has captured the imagination of so many people is that she is decisive, isnt afraid to stand by her decisions, and clearly states her core values. Those values inform all her thinking and decision process. America is tired of flim-flam politicians without values, whose decision-making process is the public opinion poll.
Executives are charged with defining the overall direction for the organization. Their job is to manage the strategic plan, keep the enterprise best interests in mind, continue the leading position of that enterprise, and grow the business. EVERYTHING else is the job and business of their expert advisors, management team, tactical planners, and production line.
To say that the President of the United States must first have expert knowledge of every process involved in the day-to-day operations of the country is ridiculous. What fundamentally matters is that the President (and by assocation, Vice President) must have a strategic vision for the future of the nation.
A strategic vision is exactly that; a vision! Such a vision, which becomes a plan, can be built either on values and a moral structure, or built on wishes and dreams. Either way, when interviewing a candidate for the position of CEO, the key questions are more about the quality of their decisions, how they arrived at those decisions, and the resulting consequences of those decisions.
Barack Obama has routinely made decisions, only to discover that they were the wrong decision. When confronted with the results, based on what actually happens in reality (not someones delusions), Mr. Obama has either denied that he made the original decision, or tried to say that everyone can be wrong and he would have made a different decision had he known the future. His main regret, apparently, is that he isnt experienced in clairvoyance!
When Bill Gates went to capitalize Microsoft, the lenders werent all that interested in whether or not he understood the ins and outs of Wall Street, and whether or not hed ever taken a company public. There are specialists who can be hired, whose job it is to guide the company through an IPO.
Likewise, the captains of the worlds largest ships and tankers, in almost all cases will bring on a pilot with special knowledge of a particular port, when bringing that ship in for docking. Sarah Palin isnt required to have any special expertise on the details of foreign policy, international business, investment banking, money supplies, fighting terrorism, and running a national military. There are experts who already know all about those fields.
Nobody believes that Barack Obama is an expert on international politics or financial management. It doesnt matter because he, like McCain, Palin, and Biden dont need to be an expert on these fields! But what experts will Obama choose to make recommendations? Will he include recommendations opposed to his ideology? Will he be objective in his analysis? And fundamentally, what is the Obama vision for the future of America?
Nobody knows; its a mystery.
John McCain and Sarah Palin (his backup) are required to make irrevocable decisions with far-reaching consequences. Those consequences will not only affect all Americans right now, but will affect the United States into the future across many generations. Its the irrevocablity of these crucial decisions that matters! There wont be any if a bad decision about terrorists leads to a nuclear explosion over New York City.

Or maybe you just want to be there really, really early so you dont have to rush through traffic and miss your flight.  But tell me this: who would actually bother pulling out a tent, setting it up (even though it looks simple enough) and then rush like mad (while cursing) when the flight is resumed? Exactly. Pretty pointless, right? Wrong. Its simple: dont use MiniMotel in an airport. There are tons of reasons to use this wonderful personal tent. I can name a few off the top of my head that will have everyone reading this post nod and agree in unison.
Here are my reasons to get this tent:
1. Black Friday line
2. New StarWars movie or any Blockbuster flicks with a long ass line
3. iPhone line
4. Fourth of July fireworks in New York City
Im sure there are plenty more reasons to get a MiniMotel, but to get this for flight delays? Psssh. Estupido! I dont care if TSA, security guards and other angry passengers see me sleeping in the waiting area with my mouth wide open. On a side note, why call it when you clearly cant fit two people in there? Whats wrong with ? Eh?
*Note to self: look into career in marketing.

The abandonment wound, stored deep within the limbic brain, is easily triggered. You feel its raw nerve twinge when you fail to get recognition at work, a friend forgets to invite you to a party, or a date you thought was special did not call back. When being left is the trigger, core abandonment fears erupt. Stress hormones course through our bodies, compelling even the strongest among us to feel desperate and dependent. However self-sufficient we think we are, we suddenly feel we cant live without him/her.
Being left also kicks up our control issues. The breakup wasn't our choice. Someone else cast us into this aloneness by choosing not to be with us. We feel at loss of our personal power to compel another person's love. "I must be unlovable and unworthy for him to discard me like that." Abandonment is similar to other types of bereavement, but its grief is complicated by rejection and betrayal. We turn the rage against ourselves, accounting for the severe depression that accompanies heartbreak. When we blame the breakup on our supposed inadequacies, we abandon ourselves. We automatically think to ourselves, There must be something wrong with me that makes me not worth keeping.
We emerge not only disconnected from self-love, but with a heightened fear of abandonment. If one person can discard us, we fear others will do the same to us in the future. Rather than dissipate, this fear tends to incubate. Its insecurity burrows deep within us where it sabotages our relationships. The fear of being left makes it more difficult to let go. The rejection creates nagging conflict; closure remains incomplete. We feel unjustly dismissed and we long for an opportunity to vindicate the hurt. We are left alone to grapple with the broken pieces. Mixed with our rage is a desire for our ex to come back to take away the hurt and rejection.
The paradox of abandonment is the tendency to idealize the abandoner. He or she emerges in our imaginations as a powerful figure. We assume she must be very special to have caused this much torment simply by being absent. The intense craving is confusing to our limbic brain. Stress hormones course through our bodies, causing a heightened response to anything related to our ex for a long time. An important thing to understand is there are five universal stages that accompany the loss of love: Shattering, Withdrawal, Internalizing, Rage, and Lifting. As we make our way through these stages of grief and recovery, we build self-esteem, resolve fear and self-doubt and restore the spirit.
The Five Stages of Abandonment are: 1. Shattering: Severing of love-connection, devastation, shattering of hopes and dreams. The emotions are shock, panic, despair, feeling you can't live without your love. 2. Withdrawal: You're in painful withdrawal of love-loss, as intense as heroin withdrawal. The emotions are yearning, craving, obsessing, longing for your ex's return. 3. Internalizing: As you try to making sense of the rejection, you doubt and blame yourself. Idealizing the abandoner at your own expense, narcissistic injury sets in and fear incubates. 4. Rage: Reversing the rejection and having retaliatory feelings. Displacing anger on friends who don't understand or are critical of the abandoner leads to more unhealthy action. 5. Lifting: Rising out despair, life begins to distract you. You begin to open to love again and all its possibilities. You through all the stages over and over until you emerge out the end of the tunnel a changed person capable of greater life and love than before.

Review
Nayan Chanda gives us in this volume an excellent account, both erudite and entertaining, of the globalization of human interaction. This book vividly portrays the long and sinuous, yet inexorable quest of humanity to reintegrate itself into just one family, as we once were.-Ernesto Zedillo, Director Yale Center for the Study of Globalization, Former President of Mexico (Ernesto Zedillo 20070529)
A magnificent and masterly achievement. Nayan Chanda has taken a buzzword of our era, globalization, and defined it in the full, rich, complex context of a phenomenon that has shaped humanity over the millennia. He conveys his prodigious knowledge with clarity, wit, and narrative verve, weaving themes from the history of science, politics, commerce, and religion into a coherent, compelling story.-Strobe Talbott, president, The Brookings Institution (Strobe Talbott 20070530)
Nayan Chanda has written an invaluable, and in my view unique, history of globalization-how the concept emerged, evolved, was defused, and has now come to define todays international system. I learned a ton from this book, and Ive already written two books on the subject. Students will find its analyses and anecdotes easily accessible and experts will find its arguments original and provocative. It is a real contribution to the literature-a must-read for anyone interested in understanding or teaching this subject.-Thomas L. Friedman, author of The World Is Flat (Thomas L. Friedman 20070728)
Bound Together is destined to be a classic book for the 21st Century. Author Nayan Chanda has combined deep and far-ranging scholarship with a journalists touch for story telling to craft an enthralling narrative of humankind from our birth in Africa to our addiction to the Internet. Chanda is a true global citizen. His book should be read in every home, school, business and embassy in the world, and become a vital part of our common intellectual heritage.-Ambassador Derek Shearer, Chevalier Professor of Diplomacy and Director of Global Affairs, Occidental College, Los Angeles (Ambassador Derek Shearer 20070810)
s account of globalization is a breath of fresh air. His treatment of the topic, from its origins with the first humans out of Africa to its most recent appearance in financial markets, is comprehensive, informed, and judicious. Refreshingly personal and humorous, it is probably the best single-volume work on world/global history now available, and a must for all students of the subject. Along the way, India, for example, becomes as much a focus as Europe in the overall story.-Bruce Mazlish, Professor of History Emeritus, MIT . (Bruce Mazlish )
A refreshing look at globalization in long historical and very wide geographic perspective, which poses clearly the contemporary political dilemmas we all face.Immanuel Wallerstein, Senior Research Scholar, Yale University (Immanuel Wallerstein )
It is, in my view, a wonderful read-incredibly informative, insightful, and written with energy, eloquence, and simplicity. The themes were fresh and the organization especially interesting. Some of the great strengths of the book are the way he relates history to the present, the global perspective throughout, the broader-than-economics focus; and the way he describes the overlap of forces that have led to the world we now live in. My guess is that this book will be widely read and have a special place on any bookshelf that contains works on globalization.-Jeffrey Garten, former Dean and Juan Trippe Professor in the Practice of International Trade, Finance, and Business at the Yale School of Management (Jeffrey Garten )
Given the avalanche of books on globalization it is reasonable to assume that for now the subject has been exhausted. This assumption crumbles after one reads Nayan Chandas masterful analysis and discovers that this gifted writer has added a new and important layer to our understanding of why and how we are all `Bound Together. A must read.s Naim, Editor in Chief, Foreign Policy . (Moiss Naim )
Bound Together is a graceful recounting of modern globalization with a panoramic perspective. Studded with meaningful and entertaining anecdotes, it is essential reading for anyone who wants to understand how we got where we are today.-Joseph E. Stiglitz, Nobel laureate in economics (Joseph E. Stiglitz )
This book is a breakthrough. It tells the story of why humanity is left with no other endgame than finding the principles and practices that will answer the question, How on Earth can we live together?-Bo Ekman, founder and chairman, Tllberg Foundation (Bo Ekman )
Bound Together is a wonderful book that provides us with a rich and holistic perspective on globalization. The book is a must for every student of globalization.-R. Narayana Murthy, Chairman and Chief Mentor, Infosys Technologies Ltd. (R. Narayana Murthy )
In this richly engaging history of globalization, Chanda depicts todays growing global interconnectedness as part of a larger drama that has unfolded over thousands of years, propelled by human impulses to explore, prosper, and dominate. The books narrative revolves around the stories of individuals and groups on the move across continents and eras.-Foreign Affairs (Foreign Affairs )
A most readable history of human interconnectedness. The book reminds us of something important: Although globalization may seem to intrude unexpectedly in our lives, whether in the form of foreign capital or the SARS virus, all it really does is disclose to us who we already were. . . . This book tells a happy story, of a great community more voluntary than compulsory.-Gaurav Tiwari, New York Sun (Gaurav Tiwari New York Sun )
[An] engaging analysis. . . . This is a book filled with fascinating information. And Chanda makes the most of his training as both a journalist and a scholar, bringing to his tale a reporters eye and sense of pacing as well as an impressive breadth of knowledge.-Jeffrey N. Wasserstein, Newsweek (Jeffrey N. Wasserstein Newsweek )
By unbundling the attributes of modern globalization and linking them to an almost endless chain of historical precedents, Mr. Chanda demystifies a phenomenon invested by its enemies with nearly satanic properties.-William Grimes, New York Times (William Grimes New York Times )
A lively book that is packed with incident, anecdote and derring-do. . . . Mr. Chanda makes a solid and attractive case for globalisation and its potential as a force for good. But he also has a great deal of sympathy for globalisations losers.-Economist (Economist )
While most of us consider globalization to be a purely contemporary phenomenon-conjuring up images of multinational coffee chains and multilingual call centers-to Chanda it is as old as humanity itself, and as complex and unpredictable. . . . His encyclopedic survey of the forces and events that have connected individuals, societies and cultures is nimbly paced and punctuated by lively anecdotes. . .

Ladies and Gentlemen -
Before we get into Saturdays Picks I have to say
I am still mad about last night
I am One and Two on Thursday night (again)?

This is the reason my average has fallen faster than the stock market the last two weeks
As you know I was a disappointing 30 and 15 (76%) last week
Which leaves me at an embarrassing 202 and 51 for the season or 80%.
Hold on for a minute..
I just said thirty Hail Bryants..
Now I feel better
Enjoy Your Picks!

Continuing along with their hectic press tour, Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens attended a screening of “High School Musical 3: Senior Year” in Madrid, Spain on Thursday (October 2).
The Disney co-star couple just flew into Spain earlier in the day following a two-day promotional stop in Paris, France. Nonetheless, both looked on top of their game - with Vanessa sporting a Jenny Packham dress with matching footwear while Zac opted to wear a hunky navy suit.
With Spain being the latest stop on the “High School Musical 3: Senior Year” European press tour, the cast will soon be headed off to visit Germany.
And in less than a week (October 7th), the whole gang will finish things off in the UK for the big European premiere of HSM 3, ahead of the Los Angeles premiere, slated for October 16th.

How come we arent taught basic economics (including international economics) in grade school?
Im looking back over my life and education, thinking about how I learned about money, when this happened, and what it was that I learned. More often than not, either I got curious about what I thought was a simple question, or I read something odd and wanted to know a bit more. The Internet has certainly made it easy to get information, and of course the local library is a never-ending excellent source.
But I didnt learn anything at all about money and finance in school. I wonder if thats a conspiracy of some sort? The more stupid we are, the American public, the easier it is for the government to screw us in the wallets.
Recently, Ive been interested in economics because Ive had an ongoing interest in whats call a zero sum equation. The belief that wealthy people have a moral obligation to give back to a community, neighborhood, or the society at large is ridiculous. But where did it come from? Where did this undefined claim to moral demand begin?
Lester C. Thurow wrote a book called, The Zero-Sum Society back in 1980. There already had been economic discussion coming to popularity back in the late 1960s, so I started with Mr. Thurow, a highly accredited economist. From there, Ive been reading about international trade and trade deficits.
Its astonishing! From what I gather, there are two key things being measured: capital, and foreign exchange rates. Capital is the core concept of the economic philosophy of capitalism.
Simplistically, capital trade balances are figured as to how many foreigners (people outside the US) want to hold assets in the US in relation to how many Americans want to hold assets outside the US.
Assets would mean stores, buildings, manufacturing plants, assembly plants, real estate, land, farms, and anything else that generates something useful in making valuable stuff.
Foreign exchange seems to mean money itself. If I want to buy a shirt in France, I cant just send 10 dollars (American) to someone in France and get the shirt mailed to me. It may look like that, if I use PayPal or something, but thats not technically what happens.
To buy my shirt in France, I first get the price in francs. I then take 10 American paper dollars and send them to whatever central bank in France. That bank takes (and keeps) the paper dollars. They those paper dollars for francs, then send those francs to the person who owns the shirt.
The foreign exchange rate is negotiated by someone. It could be the central banks, the governments, or the open market place. That rate is how many French francs equal 1 American dollar.
At the end of the day, France now owns the paper dollars I sent over there (the governments and banks actually did the transfer). I get my shirt. The shirt guy gets French francs.
The way economists would say it, from what I gather, is that the entire country of France somehow decided to buy 10 American dollars and send us a shirt. Confused? No doubt! Because Im buying a shirt, Im sending dollars outside the country, and the value of the dollar is high. The French want the dollars.
But if I sell a shirt to a guy in France, then I want francs, not dollars. Therefore, the value of the dollar is down. All because I want to sell my shirt to some (?) outside the country! What happened to the guy who wants the shirt? Its a mystery.
A trade deficit happens when more people outside the US own or control assets outside the country than Americans own or control outside the country. Note that this is all outside the country. It also happens when people outside the country buy things from America. They send us their money and dont want our money, they want our stuff. So the value of the dollar goes down.
When the value of the dollar is low, does that mean our money sucks? Apparently not. It means that people all over the world are buying lots and lots of stuff, sending us their money so we can keep it. WE arent buying their stuff, so our dollars are sitting here, not there. The value of our dollars, according to economists, is going down.
Butre selling boatloads of stuff to everywhere in the world!
Heres another thing: If we bring stuff in from outside the country, thats an import. If we send something outside the country, thats an export. When we import more than we export, we have an international trade deficit. (If we buy more stuff than we make, thats a productivity problem, or consumer debt problem.)
Heres the rub: An import or export is anything that crosses the border, through Customs. Nobody cares who was responsible for making that thing, its irrelevant in terms of import and export
In other words, if Intel, an American company, decides to build a chip-making plant in China, thats a building. Intel has increased their capital assets in a foreign nation. America gets a positive capital balance. But!when Intel brings those chips back to the US for sale in a computer, we technically are the chips.
Who cares that the chips are American, owned by an American company! They were moved across Customs from outside to inside the country. Ergo, economics tells us that we imported those chips and that means more imports, not exports.
The international trade deficit includes ALL those items that are manufactured by American companies, part of the American economy, but that are made outside the US and brought back here!
Ive been vaguely hearing about the growing trade deficit all my life. I thought it meant that the rest of the world is growing and building, making and selling, and that the US is just sitting around. Were doing nothing, the economy is dead, were going broke, and life is bad. Thats what I sort-of-kind-of believed, knowing nothing at all about economics!
Instead, it turns out that trade deficit is an accounting problem with technically correct statements that have very little to do with each of our everyday lives and times. In fact, the more the American economy grows, develops, creates, builds, and expands, the more WE have a trade deficit! Not the rest of the world!
How stupid is that?
If I have a business and start growing and expanding, selling more and more stuff to the rest of the world, then Im a success, right? Wrong! Im helping to grow the international trade deficit! Every item I sell to the world means Im bringing more and more foreign money here and not selling Im helping to make the dollar less valuable and making the dollar Eh?
So the more I sell, the more exports are leaving the country, but the less our money is worth? Does that make sense? I dunno, Im not an economist. All I know is Im to blame for increasing the deficit in foreign exchange.
If I decide to open up a manufacturing plant outside the country, Im reducing the capital deficit. Im increasing the capital assets outside the country. Im an American, and own that plant in a foreign nation.
To balance that reduction here, and increase elsewhere, some foreign company would have to open up a manufacturing plant here in America. But everything I manufacture and sell back here to an American public, thats an import. We then import more than were exporting.
So the more I sell my own stuff that I had manufactured elsewhere, the more Im importing. That means the entire country is importing more than its exporting and we have a capital trade deficit? Or is it a foreign exchange deficit? What the hellI thought I was doing good, thinking and being successful!
I swearthis just gives me a headache! The hell with this trade deficit nonsense.

The US crackdown on internet gambling has created a large and potentially lucrative loophole for fantasy sports leagues, a new report suggests. The study raises further questions about the controversial ban as efforts mount in Washington, D.C., to repeal or amend the sweeping prohibition.
The National Football League and other professional sports leagues were aggressive backers of the 2006 federal ban on internet gambling, the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. The politically-influential leagues have campaigned aggressively against on-line sports betting, fearing scandals that could drag in players and cast a cloud over the integrity of their games.
But while the new law took aim at a wide variety of online gambling activity, it carved out a specific exemption for fantasy sports leagues, argues Joseph Kelly, co-editor in chief of the Gaming Law Review and Economics and a professor of business law at SUNY College Buffalo in New York.
Such fantasy sports leagues have been a boon for the professional leagues, further increasing fan interest in their teams and games. There are now more than 27 million players in the United States with one third playing baseball, and annual revenue is in the range of $800m to $1bn, according to the Fantasy Sports Trade Association.
However, that loophole has unwittingly opened the door to a fast-growing, and so far, legal form of online gambling; one which appears poised to stretch the original intent of the exemption for fantasy sports under the two-year-old internet gambling ban, Kelly warns.
Such concerns come as Congress weighs whether to suspend the increasingly unpopular 2006 internet crackdown. Democratic US Representative Barney Frank, chairman of the powerful House Financial Services Committee, succeeded in pushing through his committee a bill that would have suspended the enforcement of the federal internet gambling ban, though it would preserve the ban on online sports betting.
While an amendment that allows horse tracks to offer on-line wagering generated controversy, the iron-clad exemption for fantasy sports leagues surprisingly generated little press attention, Kelly observes in his article, “Living in a Fantasy”.
“You have some very clever entrepreneurs who could take fantasy sports and define it in such a way that the game will not have any relationship with fantasy sports,” Kelly said in an interview with GamblingCompliance.
In fact, that trend may be already starting to happen, notes Kelly, in his recent Gaming Law Review report. Originally founded by small groups of statistic-crazed baseball fanatics, fantasy sports leagues have been extended to bowling, darts, celebrity leagues and even ‘fantasy Congress’ leagues. “But that trend is likely to move in directions that will push the envelope each further, to the point where the very definition of what is a sport is called into question,” he argues.
Meanwhile, fantasy leagues are increasingly looking like a form of online gambling. Players ante up a fee to play in a tournament, and then compete for a prize or prizes. And those prizes are getting more lucrative as well. Fantasy Fishing Awards, Kelly notes, is “offering a $1m grand prize and 4,000 other prizes in its online game.”
Station Casinos, in turn, which operates the fifth largest sports book, is accepting “wagers based on players’ projected fantasy statistics”, Kelly reports. Some entry fees may be as high as $1,500. More typical is one fantasy baseball league, which charges $29.95 to enter and offers a grand prize of $10,000.
“The entrance fee and the winning of prizes could be considered a bet and therefore be possible illegal gambling,” Kelly writes.
Still, if the coast is clear on the federal level, there are still some potential roadblocks on the state level for would-be online gambling operators, according to Kelly. While the exemption for fantasy sports protects it from federal prosecution under the 2006 internet gambling law, it leaves it up to the states to decide whether to write regulations that would officially legalize fantasy sports.
So far, only Montana has taken this step, but it has also capped profits at 15 percent, effectively discouraging any would-be fantasy sports operators. However, in written opinions, attorney generals in three different states – Florida, Arizona and Louisiana - have concluded fantasy sports are illegal, Kelly writes.
“Attorney general opinions are not law, but they are viewed often by courts as persuasive authority,” Kelly writes.
That said, it is highly unlikely there will any state crackdowns on fantasy sports clubs. For politically savvy district attorneys and attorney generals, there is nothing to be gained – and much to be lost – by going after sports fans. “Some of the biggest names are conducting fantasy sports leagues. I can’t imagine a law enforcement person wanting to get into this,” Kelly said.
By contrast, there have been a few private suits against fantasy sports companies on behalf of individuals who lost money in tournaments run by the firms. So far, none of these suits have been successful.
Nor is there likely to be any action by the major sports leagues, whose main concern is barring online sports betting out of concern it could damage the integrity of their games, said Andrew Zimbalist, an economist at Smith College and one of the nation’s top sports business experts.
“It just increases their following and the intensity of the fan base tremendously,” Zimbalist said. “They certainly don’t want to squelch that activity. It’s low-grade gambling.

Stockholders in Cavicchia Miser.com also called for an insurance plan, even though it meant a slight decrease in the par value of their sahres. "Look," said Masri Halek, Chairman of the Board of Directors, "we'd rather have a consistent share value over time, versus a catastrophic loss of company value due to some frivalous lawsuit or liable charges. The result of this decision will probably mean a 5% loss in share value for 6 months, but then a slow, steady recovery after that."
This new realm of Black insurance offerings will also create a demand for lawyers specializing in internet and insurance law. Stated Rasheeda Furne, a top online lawyer with the Segers Zoumis Law Partners, "Once insurance companies buy into the online business sector, they're going to need able legal representation to avoid false claims. Likewise, Black businesses will need legal representation against these big-time insurance companies in order to get the disbursements they deserve. I'm excited about the possibilities."
"Our legal team has already thoroughly researched how to file an insurance claim for online business," said Pancho Marxen, CEO of www.Pancho Marxen.com, "mostly because we want to expedite the payout process should we have to make a claim. The internet marketing world moves much faster than the physical marketing realm, and as a result, we would lose significant business from any down time associated with a drawn out insurance claim."
Insurance companies, even those that specializein the Black field, are also aware of this fact, and have pledged to fast track any claims that are filed. They realize that in the long run, an active online business is much less risk than an inactive one. This sentiment is also shared by a few actuarys with the online firm www.Ortz Clouser.com, which specializes in insurance programs for most Black businesses. They recently completed a 2 year long study into the physics of the Black online business, in order to understand the risks associated with these types of companies. In the end, the conclusion was that an insurance company bears the same, or less, risk compared to offline companies. In the new Black business world online, more and more owners are looking to buy insurance that will protect themselves against IT outages, hacker attacks, and frivalous lawsuits from customers. "We believe we have a right to the same protections afforded to offline businesses, despite the fact that we don't have a physical place of business," said Ayana Sheaman, Director of www.Chhour Brevik.com, a new Black startup company. Legal representation for Black workers will also be needed, if and when labor unions form around online businesses. "We're already researching able counsel for labor union related insurance claimes," said Grawburg Whooper, organizer of the local Streams Rumpel internet union, "because we don't want to get screwed in the event an insurance claim is denied to a respective business."
Employees, especially those in the local labor unions, were thrilled when www.Janda Ellwood.net company CEO Cantara Cusson announced increased coverage for ALL employees and contractors. "It's time we catch up with the resk of the Black business community and offer solid fringe benefits for our valued employees. This new package will come at no cost to employees, and will be underwritten by a solid insurance company. The premium charge will be higher, but we're banking on the fact that Black product sales will increase because our workers will be highly motivated to come to work each day."
"I'm mostly concered about our employees," said Lovely Wickings, VP of Human Resources at Kari Haislip Corp, "because they currently have a limited health and dental plan. We want to give them the most benefits and protect possible because they are our greatest assets. People forget that the cost of losing an employee to another Black company sometimes outweighs the cost of keeping them onboard."
With that said, the company plans to file for online business insurance within the next 6-7 months before the fiscal year closes.

We may never really know. What I do know is that both parties are aware of the fact that something must be done to correct the countrys financial woes immediately, because if nothing is done right now it will send the U.S. economy into a tailspin which will send the country and the the rest of the whole world into a long drawn recession. I believe the Democrats realize too that such a scenario will not be to their advantage even if they wrest control of the white house by November because by then the job of reviving the economy will be a herculean job and their white house residency may be short lived if they fall short of expectations.
I am sure by now both parties are trying to map out their own strategies to resolve the impasse. I even believe a solution will be had before the week ends. Each of them just want to make sure that the other will not unduly gain politically from the passage of EESA 2008. Already the stock market made the steepest dive since the last depression! Further delays may cause long lasting damage to the U.S. economy and ultimately the rest of the world.
Below is a short summary of EESA 2008 which amazingly, had to come from Xinhua, Chinas Peoples Daily Online (http://english.peopledaily.com.cn/90001/90778/90858/90864/6508590.html):
The following is the summary of U.S. financial bailout bill draft, which will authorize the U.S. government the largest financial intervention since the Great Depression.
I. Stabilizing the Economy
The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 (EESA) provides up to 700 billion dollars to the Secretary of the Treasury to buy mortgages and other assets that are clogging the balance sheets of financial institutions and making it difficult for working families, small businesses, and other companies to access credit, which is vital to a strong and stable economy. EESA also establishes a program that would allow companies to insure their troubled assets.
II. Homeownership Preservation
EESA requires the Treasury to modify troubled loans many the result of predatory lending practices wherever possible to help American families keep their homes. It also directs other federal agencies to modify loans that they own or control. Finally, it improves the HOPE for Homeowners program by expanding eligibility and increasing the tools available to the Department of Housing and Urban Development to help more families keep their homes.
III. Taxpayer Protection
Taxpayers should not be expected to pay for Wall Streets mistakes. The legislation requires companies that sell some of their bad assets to the government to provide warrants so that taxpayers will benefit from any future growth these companies may experience as a result of participation in this program. The legislation also requires the President to submit legislation that would cover any losses to taxpayers resulting from this program by charging a small, broad-based fee on all financial institutions.
IV. No Windfalls for Executives
Executives who made bad decisions should not be allowed to dump their bad assets on the government, and then walk away with millions of dollars in bonuses. In order to participate in this program, companies will lose certain tax benefits and, in some cases, must limit executive pay. In addition, the bill limits golden parachutes and requires that unearned bonuses be returned.
V. Strong Oversight
Rather than giving the Treasury all the funds at once, the legislation gives the Treasury 250 billion dollars immediately, then requires the President to certify that additional funds are needed (100 billion dollars, then 350 billion dollars subject to Congressional disapproval). The Treasury must report on the use of the funds and the progress in addressing the crisis. EESA also establishes an Oversight Board so that the Treasury cannot act in an arbitrary manner. It also establishes a special inspector general to protect against waste, fraud and abuse.

I was recently reading through a bunch of TV converter box reviews and found out that there are a lot of converter boxes out there that are lacking analog pass-through. Analog pass-through is very important because without it you will lose all lower power stations that arent required to make the transition. When companies first came out with converter boxes almost none of them had the analog pass feature. If you are looking to get a TV converter box I suggest that you choose one carefully and make sure yours has analog pass-through. By now almost all companies have come out with update versions to include it but there are still older models on the market that havent been cleared out yet. When you get your converter box double check and make sure you are getting a new model that has the pass-through function.

Gambling is legal in Black Hawk, Central City and Cripple Creek, Colorado.  The casinos in these historic towns depend on gambling dollars from tourists and locals to survive.
But under the current gaming rules, a gambler may only wager a maximum of $5 per bet on the blackjack table. It is nearly impossible to beat the house over the long haul under these conditions. Why? The slight edge the house enjoys every time a player makes a bet, even as the player is employing the best blackjack strategy, will ultimately wear the player down.
Arguably, the best chance one has to win any significant amount of money, while limiting the downside, is to bet progressively with house money as one starts to beat the dealer. If one is lucky enough to win several hands in a row, the number of chips on the table in front of a player can suddenly escalate.
There are various strategies for managing the way one bets, however, though one thing is certain:  Play the same amount every hand over a long period and the time spent pursuing profit will hardly have seemed worth it.
For most folks, the $5 wager is child’s play.  Winning $5 carries no excitement.  Anticipation can never build.  Boredom with the task at hand overcomes any initial titillation.
Good chance, as of this writing, that an initiative will appear on the November, 2008, ballot in Colorado to raise the limit on blackjack to $100.  This factor alone would greatly advantage the player over the current situation.  No dollar limits would even be better.
The initiative also calls for adding craps and roulette to the mix of games allowed in these casinos.  The addition of these games would greatly enhance the gambling experience for most people.  Not all folks like to play the slots, you know?
These towns will help to give a Vegas a run for its money. Well, not exactly. Vegas will not care. But tourism in Colorado will grow. The hotels, bars and restaurants will prosper. Tax revenues will explode. Everyone will be happier. Very little harm will come to society by these modest ballot revisions.
The travel website, GamblingResort.com provides information about the various casino venues in Black Hawk, Central City and Cripple Creek.  It is a great resource for those planning to visit a gambling destination here or anywhere else in the country.  One can find all sorts of useful information, including photos, casino statistics, map locators, addresses and phone numbers for every casino in the USA and beyond.  One can also book hotels at GamblingResort.com.  Give it a try.

In spite of the fact that Kentucky governor is pro-gambling, he is seeking a method to ban over 140 gambling sites that are operating in the state at the moment. The state of Kentucky is one of the biggest horse racing states. Steve Beshear, Governor, has asked a judge of Franklin County Court to give the state control over online 141 gambling site domain names trying to limit the state residents’ access to these sites. He is making an attempt to block sites which include the highly popular casino gambling sites, for example bodoglife.com, fulltiltpoker.com, and doylesroom.com. The hearing in the court is scheduled for 25 September, 2008. Kentucky is the first state that is trying to block an online casino gambling by taking over internet domain names matching gambling sites.
Beshear calls online casino gambling sites ‘leeches on the communities’. According to Beshear, they differ from land casinos in the US since they do not pay tax revenues, do not provide jobs and do not bring tourism benefits. He is sure that by blocking online gambling websites Kentucky will preserve its signature industry. The state is famous for the Kentucky Derby, one of the largest horse races in the USA, and there is a lottery in the state and it permits gambling at horse tracks and also in bingo halls.
Online casino gambling sites siphon money off legal and regulated games like Kentucky’s purebred racing industry, lottery, and also charitable gaming activities. Nobody has ever estimated the amount of money which Kentucky is losing to internet gambling, but Beshear considers residents are spending millions online.
Online gambling proponents think that Beshear’s move is very ill-conceived and very disappointing since online poker sites targeted in the total ban don’t violate any state or federal law.

But if the bill had passed the OTHER nightmare scenario would have included the banks getting bailed out, but inflation skyrocketing as the US Treasury prints more money to flush into the lending system, weakening the dollar ever further and raising the prices of everything.
Sure, CEO's would get paid and banks would stay in business, but if everyone stops spending because they can't afford anything I don't know how THAT helps the economy either.

Obviously, there was some cajoling, arm twisting, begging, crying, whatever it takes to get votes changed from no to "yes, take the tax payers money," at first leaving me to wonder if this is going to turn into a daylight version of the less critical, but highly messed up drug benefit vote where thousands of lobbyists and House Enforcer Tom "The Hammer" DeLay were brow-beating recalcitrant Republicans into backing a plan they barely understood and would learn later, they never would have voted for.
But there's no Hammer. And Bush, Cheney, et al, don't scare anyone. Even potential president John McCain, despite "suspending" that campaign wasn't able to do shizznit to get his team on board. He flirted with joining the revolt, but at the debate admitted tersely that he would vote for the behemouth bailout. And apparently, the house Republicans were upset before over what they called a hyper-partisan speech Speaker Nancy Pelosi gave before the vote.
You potentially doom the country over a speech hurting your feelings? Let's be real. Those Republicans just didn't want to vote for that thing. Some Democrats didn't want to vote for this. Don't blame Pelois. Did her speech affect those 95 Democrats who said no, too?

The president is all sour patches over the no vote. Congress is all sour patches. I'm all sour patches, but I don't have much money in the market (just a paltry 401K that is probably worthless right now). But I'm sour patches because this is it. The Bush Administration truly has the opposite version of the Midas touch.

Everything they felt up turned to shit. From the terrorist attacks on 9/11, our relationship with the world, to going to war with the wrong country, inadvertently strengthening Iran and upsetting the power balance in the Middle East by taking out Iraq, to letting people die in the Superdome and drown in the streets of New Orleans, to the spiking of gas prices to "I'm taking the bus" levels, to now the housing crisis which has taken out Wall Street.
Bravo, idiots! Bravo! You ruined everything. I won't say that Bush is the worst president ever.

Free, a simple little word, but simple or not it evokes powerful emotions in all of us. The hope of actually getting something for nothing. But is free the best way to go or should we resign ourselves to the simple fact that everything in life has its price and if we truly want free do we have to sacrifice our privacy to get it.When taking advantage of a free offer or free trial do you ever stop to think why you are being offered this supposedly world encompassing, awe inspiring product for free or do you just dive in blindly simply because it is free, which begs the question, do you really value anything you are given as opposed to products for which you have to pay.On the Internet, to receive anything for free you generally have to part with some personal information and its the divulging of this information which mostly allows the companies involved to not only send you details of their own products but to sell or rent your information to other companies for the same purpose. This can cause so many problems with your email account, resulting in a never ending flood of unwanted offers that miraculously start to appear in your inbox. You go from a trickle of emails from friends and aquaintences to a tsunami of offers for anything from free porn to stocks and shares trading advice. All unwanted, all invasive, but there day after day all the same. How do we avoid falling into this trap and how, if we do want free offers or trials, do we protect ourselves from the companies that use our personal information in this way. Its a simple problem to solve. The first step is don't so eager to receive free stuff that you neglect to take a few minutes to read the small print before you give up your personal information. Free offers will normally direct you to a site where you are required to sign up or register in order to receive the offer. Familiarize yourself with the site and particularly the sites privacy policy. If the privacy policy allows the site owner to sell your information this will result in a flood of unwanted offers and most do wish to sell or rent your information. Some sites however, and these are the sites whose offers I consider it safe to proceed with, only wish to send you details of their own products which they feel may be of interest to you. Don't be misled here, you still receive offers that wont interest you but you can rest assured that at least now your email address should not be all over the Internet and you wont be receiving offers that, if like me you use a shared email account with your partner, can sometimes be a little embarrassing and difficult to explain.Free can be paramount for a great product or service and in some cases you are offered a free trial or product by a site as a prelaunch offer. If you ignore free simply because you are afraid of the prospect of an inbox of unwanted mail you will no doubt miss out on some of the best new products and innovations available on the Internet. This would be crazy, especially if you are trying to make your living online. There are some excellent products out there and with a little due diligence on your part you can take advantage of these services and products without the usual ensuing problems. So, get out there and take advantage of what's available for free but be a little more discerning in your choice of offer and a little less eager to part with your contact information.

Dear diary..

Why is it that God is so unfair to me?! Why is it that I am born like this?! Why can't I just be like my other friends?! Why can't I look or behave like the rest? Why? Why? I am such a useless person. A hopeless human being. Everywhere I go, people would stare at me. Do you think I like them gazing at me? I hate it when their eyes zoom into me. Some of them even chortled at me.

I feel so wretched. I am a failure to my family. I am a burden to my friends who have to take care of me every time. Why am I born to make them suffer like this? My life is like a heavy load which is tiresome to carry. I am a burden. A huge burden! An enormous burden! A sickening burden!

Every time when I lick a small portion of an ice-cream, I can't feel the sweetness. I feel nothing. Everything is tasteless to me. Two hours ago, I bought an ice-cream from 7 eleven. It looked appetizing. A chocolate ice-cream with almond toppings. I wanted to taste it. I yearned for a bite.

But I was disappointed again. I couldn't taste anything. Not even the cone of the ice-cream. Nothing! My taste buds have failed me. Not once, twice but many times. I envy the other kids. They smile whenever they are enjoying their ice-creams. But me? Everything is the same. Vegetables, rice, chocolates, peanuts, bread, beans, fish, chicken and ice-cream. All plain and bland.

I asked my mum when I reached home. Why am I different from everyone else? Why can't I taste anything? Or maybe why does everything taste the same? Mum said I was special. She said I would be OK soon. She said whatever happens, I am still a gift from God.

She lied to me! She always do! I had this 'thing' since I was 14 years old. I am 17 now. My taste buds have malfunctioned for the past 3 years. I am terrified. What is happening to me? Or why is this happening to me? Why does God choose me? Why not him or her? Or anyone else?! Those questions were bombarding my brain. I am depressed.

I am sorry I made some of your pages wet now, diary. I just couldn't hold back my tears. I am very jealous. Jealous with everyone around me. I can't hold a pen longer than 3 minutes. I am so weak. I am a weakling. Me and only me. And I get tired easily.

Pardon me if I smudge some of the ink on u. This pen I am using was given to me by Adam. He is my classmate. He gave it to me during birthday. I have to rest every 3 minutes of using it. It is a Pilot pen. Adam is really nice. He is my best friend. He is always there to protect me from the bullies.

Oh, you were also bought by Adam as a gift during my birthday. You came with the Pilot pen. He wrapped you in a newspaper. You look great and brand new. I love your green skin. My favourite colour is green.

Our class is 07S06. My form teacher is Mrs Lim. She teaches me Maths. She's a really nice teacher. She always gave me extra time to complete my test papers. So kind of her.

And one more thing - I am studying in Tampines Junior College. It's an old school. I will bring you to my school one day OK, diary?

OK..I have some homework to do now..I will update you tomorrow aites. Sleep tight.

Time now: 6.35pm

[to be continued..

My scooter!
GOOD TIMES! GREAT VI
ATIONS!
My tooterin’ scooter rules! It gets me around town, ya’know? It ain’t one of those things that can zip up the steep hills that run in all directions in my part of Colorado. It is a small little scooter that sometimes thinks too big.
And! Plus! I LOVE MY HORN!
The scooter’s horn is LOUD! Well, it feels loud, anyway. And that’s just it – I can feel the horn whenever I use it. And I use it lots!
The other day, an old lady carrying four paper sacks of stuffed groceries was walking past me very, very slowly in the parking lot – and that kind of perturbed me. I mean, I was in a hurry to get a facial and massage and so I –
HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONKED!
Hard-core!
HaHa!
I’m just messin’ with ya.
For those of you with mindful parents (i.e. COLLEGE DWEEBS), a scooter is a great investment! Great mileage! Cheap everything! In fact, in Colorado, you do not even need a license for scooters with engines smaller than 50 CC’s!
And umm .. well, I ride my scooter mostly nearby where I live. I use it to go to the gym, the store, the massage and facial cream place, the car wash and anywhere else I need to go. For longer treks, like across town or to Santa Fe, I tend to kite-board.
I dunno.
Oh! Hey! There IS a reason for today’s article, after all! There are lots of bloggers out on the blogosphere and I do enjoy reading many of them. Some of them are deaf and some of them are hard of hearing, and some of them are hearing people. Some of them are masters of English; some are masters of ASL; and some live in faraway places – like airports.
I recently read a blog that I found through an aggregate and inside the blog, I was amazed at the things I read. A humble person wrote from their heart. A simple message with conflicting and complex emotions, visible for all the world to see.
But I ain’t talkin’ ‘bout that. I’m talkin’ ‘bout people just freely writing and leaving their writing quirks alone and as part of the overall canvas of an article.
I have been trying to get one of my blogger-friends to do more freestyle writing on that person’s blog because I really enjoy that writing. Not only that, but I do think many other people will also like what that person has to say – proper English rules be damned.
So .. practice what I preach. Sho’nuff!
(I cheated – typos drive my neighbor up the wall, so I fixed ‘em!)
Be good .. or be good at it.
