Rise Against are doing their best to stay angry. Teen angst and apathy, the failures of a corrupt administration and a world going to pieces are topics the Chicago hardcore/punk quartet have made their livings writing about. Through brute force and dedicated self-improvement, the band has risen up the ranks of the ranks of rocks protest heavyweights over the past several years. But how long till the well runs dry? What was it that Mr. Cobain said so long ago? Ah yes: Teenage angst has paid off well / Now Im bored and old. Sure, theres plenty to bitch about in the world, and Rise Against has grabbed another fistful for their latest, Appeal To Reason. But theres a suspect marketability here that dilutes the message considerably, and some of its just pure pandering.

I wanted to send an update on some of the upcoming events:

* Homecoming Parade - The parade is scheduled for October 17th. We are in need of trailers to transport the teams along the parade route. If you have a trailer that we can borrow, please let me or Anita Call know ASAP. We'd like to secure one trailer per team, if possible. The trailer(s) will be decorated a day or two prior to the parade. ALL girls from ALL teams should plan to participate. We ask that each player bring two bags of wrapped candy to throw to the crowd. Anita Call will be organizing the group... more information to follow.

* Banquet - The invitations for the team banquet will be distributed by the end of the week, if you've not already received one. Please help us celebrate the Lady Raiders 2008 Soccer Season at Receptions Banquet Center, 1379 Donaldson Road, Erlanger, KY on November 13 @ 6:00 PM. The banquet cost for parents, siblings, friends and guests is $15/person. There will be NO cost to the players or coaches. Please make all checks payable to RHS Girls Soccer. * District Tournament - The Varsity team will play in the District Tournament beginning on Monday, October 13th. The girls' team is responsible to cover ALL girls' games scheduled to play. I have 5 slots left to fill... one opening for Wednesday, October 15 @ 7:30 and four openings for the Championship Game on Thursday, October 16 @ 5:30 PM. At this time, only two freshman parents have volunteered so any assistance from the Freshman parents would be very helpful. Any parent from any team can assist in the concession stand. Please consider getting involved and helping.

* District Tournament - Coach Echeverria sent out the ball girl assignments for the district tournament earlier today. Please make sure you/your player(s) look at the schedule for the assigned games. As noted in Coach's email, players are required to be present on assigned dates and time. If the player cannot be at the field as assigned, it is the responsibility of the player and parent to make substitution arrangements.

* JV Tournament - The JV tournament is scheduled for the weekend of October 9-11. The Ryle Lady Raiders will play their first game at Tower Park beginning at 5:30 PM. Please make plans to go out and support the team.

This was Mckray's first year playing flag football with the 3rd and 4th grade leagues. He was a little disappointed at first that he didn't get to play with pads and helmets but got over it quickly. He will be able to play tackle football when he is in 5th grade. Like I have said before Mckray loves sports and he loved football. He knew when every game was and times and practices. I write all that important stuff on my calendar but most of the time he kept me informed and I never had to tell him to get ready for practice or a game because he already knew or was already dressed and ready to go. That is something that I love and admire about this kid, he has such a love of life and is sooo passionate about anything he is doing. He kept the coaches in line also, a couple of times there would be too many guys on the field and he would tell the coaches and sure enough a player would have to come off the field. He is so aware of his surroundings and sometimes I wonder if it is because of his hearing loss that his other senses are so heightened. He doesn't let his lack of being able to hear very well get in the way of life and he is such a great example of that to me. He never feels sorry for himself or stops doing what he really wants to do and I hope that he never looses that.

It could be another five months before Toronto-area MPP Greg Sorbara unveils his Ontario Tourism Competitiveness Study. But based on comments made by Sorbara Tuesday, local tourism operators might not like what he has to say.
Two of the citys most controversial issues -the destination marketing fee and local destination marketing organizations -are on Sorbaras radar. And he thinks both would benefit from a change.
I think you have to put yourself in the mindset of the visitor, Sorbara -who took on the task of finding out how to make Ontario more competitive on the world stage earlier this summer -said of the way Niagara is marketed around the globe.
The visitor wants to know more about what not just Niagara Falls, but all of Niagara, has to offer.
Translation: Two destination marketing organizations (Niagara Falls Tourism, which markets Niagara Falls and Tourism Niagara, an off-shoot of regional government which is responsible for marketing the entire peninsula) means two different messages and a confused prospective visitor.

Last week, I suffered from having personal-life stuff leaving me in no mood to blog when I needed to, and not a great deal to discuss, either. This week, the list of potential talking points is as long as your arm, and I simply can't do the meat of this book justice.

First of note is that Dorothy L. Sayers completes her masterly misdirection and reveals Miss Ann Dorland to be quite a sympathetic character. She's certainly stupid, and Sayers doesn't mince words about her poor choices, but it's incredibly interesting to see Lord Peter Wimsey insist that there must be more to her than the grouchy, uncooperative jerk who consented to be interviewed by Inspector Parker and be proven right. So she done it all for love, as they say. I am intrigued by the slow revelations that Miss Dorland is completely unsuited to the hedonistic lifestyle of all the pretty young things of the artistic community. LPW quickly dismisses her painting as poor and amateurish, and she deluded herself that her relationship with Dr. Penberthy was an engagement. There are some very interesting suggestions about her sexual appetite being a "mania," but one thing seems certain: she's not capable of going to bed with a man and subsequently thinking that it's more than sex. This is the wrong crowd for her.

But Dr. Penberthy is the real murderer, and Miss Dorland merely an unwitting accomplice. I can't stress this part enough: while by this point, Sayers had completed three novels and a handful of short stories, all of them remarkably entertaining in one way or another, she really elevated herself to one of the greats with the climax of this book. It's bloodchilling. The dispassionate way that LPW and Penberthy discuss the only way out which will exonerate Miss Dorland just left me white. The television adaptation is pretty amazing as well, in its creepy silence and cold stares, but the restrictions of time made it impossible to do it justice, so they changed the pacing. In the novel, Penberthy is given half an hour to write his confession and clear his thoughts while LPW and Col. Marchbanks discuss the unpleasantness, and then, when Marchbanks produces a revolver, which, beautifully, is never actually identified as a revolver, merely "the thing," and leaves it within reach of Penberthy, it comes as a release after the buildup of the tension. On TV, LPW and Marchbanks had already discussed this offscreen and Penberthy not given a half hour, and so the handover of the gun really only starts the tension, which is increased while the duo retire to the club's bar for a drink and await the shot. There are only the most minimal changes in what actually happens, but the way the event is staged makes it a very different experience.

I was struck by another change as well. In the first episode, I wondered whether LPW's strange generosity with money might have been a conscious decision to soften the character for TV, and make him more palatable to a post-World War Two audience. Well, when LPW is called by Sheila Fentiman in the middle of the night in a panic after George's latest disappearance, something similar occurs to me. Now, in the novel, LPW briefly gets rid of the Fentimans' landlord, Mr. Munns, by asking him to get the fellow at the nearby pub to let him have an after-hours bottle of whiskey. In the TV version, he has Munns ring up Bunter instead to bring a bottle. This places Bunter at the Fentimans' flat when Mr. Munns tells this ghoulish anecdote about a neighbor who also suffered from shellshock and blackouts and murdered his family. As inappropriate anecdotes go, this really takes some topping. Naturally, in the novel, LPW coldly and firmly tells him to shut his idiot mouth. But the television Wimsey is an altogether nicer and cheerier sort of fellow, and Ian Carmichael delivers dialogue which is often very accurate, but with a little more sunshine than those lines might otherwise be read. So it falls to Bunter to savagely tell Munns to drop it.

There's a lot more to be said, including Sayers name-checking and tipping her hat at length to her predecessor in detective fiction, Austin Freeman, but that will do for now. It's a fantastic book, go and read it, and be here next time when we spend a couple of weeks on the last two of the original dozen short stories.

My trainer went on an old people riverboat cruise with her mom and grandma, so tonight was my first training session in about two weeks. (Iapos;ll be honest, it was my first workout of any kind in two weeks.) We spent the half-hour workout focusing on my back and legs. She and Ihave become friends, so I filling her in on my birthday and all the stuff she missed while she was away.

She said I should bethis talkativemore often, because she kicked my ass and Ibarely broke a sweat. The last 11 minutes were spent doing intervals on the exercise bike, and she had me up to level 13 and said I never got below 80 revolutions per minute the whole time.

Kickass.



As part of Operation apos;New Lisa,apos; Iapos;m making a point to clean out my refrigerator and cupboards of all the shit thatapos;s in there, and fill it with healthy things. Eating well and portion control have always been the hardestthings for me. I was thinking about rejoining Weight Watchers, but I have two negative memories of that place:

1) Constantly being hungry (which Iguess happens when youapos;re my size and eating about 1,000 caloriesa day)

2) Ihad been getting the distinct impression for awhile that they were starting to preach, "Fat ugly, thin beautiful," and that was driving me crazy. If I had to stay ugly until I got thin, would Iever be pretty? :p

3) The lastattended, I weighed in and gained two pounds or something like that. The woman who weighed me said in a syrupy cheerful voice, "Well, someone didnapos;t follow plan very well this week, did they?"

(First of all, Ihate it when people talk in the third person aka "Jimmyapos;s goinapos; down" from Seinfeld. Second, she said it loudly enough that several people heard her; I know because a girl behind me giggled and said to her friend, "Oh my God, did you hear that?")

I shot back, "Well, someone just lost acustomer now, didnapos;t they?", ripped the weigh-in book out of her hand, and walked out the door. The leader must have heard the exchange, because she followed me out the door, apologizing profusely. I accepted the apology, but never went back.

So, Iapos;ve decided to try and do it on my own, and now seems as good a time as any to start, especially when Iapos;m getting awesome results through training. (Iapos;ve not lost much weight, but Iapos;m getting killer muscle definition, and am doing things I never would have considered before, like running.)

Today was my first sports day. I have attended a sports day before but today i was actually part of it. It was fun and it was such a great day. The weather was great. The kids were full of energy. Apparently from what the parents say, the weather was awesome. For three years, theyapos;ve had a shitty sports day due to the weather, the rain. Which we always deal with in alot of our trips or events. But today. I guess G.O.D. Was on our side haha.

but yeah for about a month and a half. Ever since 2nd term began. Our class and the other class 3A practiced for the paraballoon. This huge round tent like balloon thing. Basically the kids have to pull it up and down. Make into a balloon while stepping on it. Making marry go rounds. Making flying firecrackers with soft bean bags. We practiced and practiced and practiced. Like the week before today. About two weeks. Pretty much everyday, we practiced. Not only our class. But also the 1st and 2nd graders were part of the paraballoon performance. And it was phenomenal. We the teachers become part of the performance too. But it was just so overwhelming. The two practices we did. The other grades and teachers were awed. And the final one, today. It felt like. This is it. This is what weapos;ve been practicing for. And the ball flew pretty high, not as great as the practice but it flew. And the kids did so well. So much better than the practice. They were in sync. I was just so proud of them. They also did relays, tug of war, 80 meter dash, and typhoon eye, which is using a stick and going around a cone with 4 to 5 members all together.

today was just amazing. I never felt so proud of my kids today. Tomorrow is a holiday. Gonna rest. Hope the kids get some good rest too.

Accuracy dramatically lowers golf handicaps. Hitting a ball where you want when you want time and time again chops strokes off your scores and golf handicap. To help golfers improve, golf lessons on accuracy usually focus on swing mechanics. Thats a great place to start. The better a golfers mechanics, the better are her chances of hitting the ball exactly where she wants.
But perfecting swing mechanics is only half the battle. The other half is mastering the non-mechanical fundamentals, for lack of a better term, that also help determine accuracy. Golfers dont always work as hard on these fundamentals as they do on grooving the right swing mechanics. But make no mistake about it. Theyre as important to accuracy as having the right grip or swinging on plane.
Start Off In Balance
A good golf tip on achieving accuracy is to focus on balance. Balance is among the most overlooked of all swing fundamentals. Every big name swing teacher agrees that its critical to maintain balance throughout the swing. The best way of doing that is to start out in balance. A balanced starting form sets the tone for a good swing. It also promotes feelings of simplicity, freedom, and confidence.
Determine The Shots Key Factors
Another good golf tip is to always determine a shots direction before hitting it. Too often golfers address the ball without determining direction. In addition, determine other key factors like distance, trajectory, and curvature. All these factors must be considered to hit a target. Determining a shots purpose, also essential to accuracy, greatly influences those other factors.
Visualize Ball Flight
Once purpose and direction are determined, golfers must visualize the balls flight path. They need a mental picture of how the ball will reach the target. Once they have that, they can let their subconscious take over. Visualizing ball flight includes drawing a target line mentally. Focus on starting the ball on the target line and getting the ball to do what you want it to. Use any visualization technique that works.
Focus On Striking The Ball
A fourth golf tip for achieving accuracy is to focus on striking the ball. That’s especially true when it comes to driving. Once a golfer picks out a target and determines the balls flight path, he or she needs to focus on striking the ball. Too often a golfer tenses up in an effort to blast a 300-yard drive only to lose focus on hitting the ball. That usually results in a flubbed or an off-target shot.
Maintain Target Awareness
Target awareness is probably an important factor in accuracy. Some consider it even more important than confidence or good swing mechanics. While thats debatable, theres no doubt that its among the top keys to accuracy. But choosing a target doesnt mean picking out a spot somewhere out there. It means picking out a very specific target and aiming for it.
One day when Ben Hogan was practicing on the range, a colleague challenged him to hit a ball into a clump of trees. Hitting it into the trees wasnt specific enough for Hogan. He asked the colleague which tree he wanted him to hit. While no one expects you to be as accurate as the legendary Hogan, the story is a great example of what picking out a target means.
These five golf tips help improve swing accuracy. When combined with the proper mechanics, they help golfers pinpoint their shots with consistency. Practice also helps. Hitting a shot exactly where a golfer wants to—over and over again—not only grooves mechanics, but also builds confidence. Together, confidence and accuracy shave strokes off your golf handicap.

“Youve got to be kidding me!”
Here we were on our red-eye from San Diego to Newark, NJ on Thursday night. Deb Finucane, Heidi Davis and I were all finding our seats very uncomfortable and with VERY little room to recline. It helped that I didnt sleep much the night before, so I was able to grab a few hours of sleep on the 5 ½ hour flight. Still, we were all wrecked upon our arrival. We still needed to grab our connecting flight to Buffalo and drive the 3 hours up to Barrie. We had ended up renting a mini-van since Laurie Chong and Moriah Alexander would be joining us for the drive.
Deb was quite the trouper, acting as our chauffeur. Laurie Chong was a very efficient navigator and the rest of us acted as amusement for the ride. Lauries assistant was dubbed “Greta” a GPS unit we rented from Avis. Crossing the border into Canada was fairly easy, even when a flustered Deb dropped our passports as she was handing them to the customs agent and he was slightly perplexed about how the 5 of us would be coming from California to play in a ball hockey tournament. We stopped at one of the ubiquitous Tim Hortons for lunch. We would share a giggle over the “TimBits” that were purchased. To be honest, I couldnt tell where the popularity of the chain came from. Their sandwiches were decent, but I definitely have had better donuts in my time.
After muddling through mid-day Friday traffic in Toronto, we found ourselves at the rink around 2:30 PM. The rinks were empty since the tournament, which would gather 68 teams, started at 3:00 PM. We took a few moments to groggily pass the ball around the court to get a feel for the rink nuances. The surface was a “waffle” grid of plastic tiles. We later found out that they play year round in the rain and snow. Only in lightning conditions do games get called off. The ball definitely moved differently on the surface and rinks were slightly smaller than what we were used to.
Our first game was at 6:00 PM. Instead of driving up to the resort we were staying at (25 minutes away), we decided to stay and watch the 4:00 Ladies B game. Nearly half of our team was from Barrie, and 4 of the ladies in on this “B” team would be playing with on our “A” team, including our goalie Krista. The ladies (Sheila, Dawnn, Elle, Andrea, and Michelle) we would pick up from Barrie were very solid players. The only disappointment was with my ex-boyfriends co-worker in Toronto, Erica, who showed up for our first game, but was a no-show for the rest of the tournament. I received an e-mail from her later saying she had come down with Strep throat.
We started rather slowly in our first game, as one might expect from a team that has never played together. In hindsight, I think we could have beaten the Sockets, a local team from Barrie, but it was not be for our exhausted team. We ended up losing 2-0, but still earned a ½ pt for having tied a period 0-0. We did not learn about the head-to-head scoring until after our first game. It was time to go get something to eat and we headed to a local restaurant near the rink with our Barrie teammates. The service was so slow, that Deb, Moriah, and Laurie would take their food to go to be able to go watch the 8:00 womens game. Heidi, Sabine, Sabines boyfriend Paul, and I would head to find the LCBO (Liquor Control Board of Ontario) and a grocery. We had 9 in the 2 bedroom suite, including our returning defender Wendy from Massachusetts and her 19-yr-old son Jacobus. Some enjoyed 20 Bees wine-in-a-box and Moriah received good-humored ridicule for having brought a trashy romance novel for her reading material. Moriah, Deb, and Laurie ended up sharing one of the king sized beds without problem.
Team Injury status: one strained groin, one dinged forehead (from my suitcase).
We woke up Saturday to be treated to breakfast-ala-Paul, who had been a saucier in NYC. Our suite had it all except salt and pepper (and a roasting pan, which was listed in the rooms FAQ as something that could be retrieved from the front desk if needed). We would later use the dishwasher, washing machine, dryer and jacuzzi tub (though we were disappointed to find the jets didnt work). After breakfast, we headed to the rink to watch our next opponents play in their 11:00 game. It was raining and we were shocked to find the games were still on. An additional shock was that no one seemed to be phased by the fact that games were being played in this condition. The rain did give us a slight reprieve from the normal stench of cigarette smoke that permeated the area. We were a little dismayed to see the team from St. Catherines, called Rectangle Auto Supply, were a far better team than the Sockets. Sabine, Deb, and I headed over to enjoy the resorts hot tub and pool. Before every game I spent a half-hour warming up my beleaguered groin. There was also time for a yummy home-cooked lunch at a restaurant called Loobies near our hotel. We noted that they had 7 desserts on the menu, and we decided we would come back later to get “one for each of us”.
Rectangle Auto Supply ended up beating us 6-1, but the game was actually a lot closer than it sounded. We were all very impressed by the womens skill level. They all moved without the ball, passed a lot and had very accurate shots. I could very well see this team contending against a team of men from our league back home on this smaller surface (where speed and break-aways were not as important/common). This second loss landed us in 8th place in the tournament and we would be playing the 9th place team (Dunlop Billiards, another local Barrie team) later that night as a play-in game for the play-offs.

We munched on fruit and lunch leftovers under the umbrella of our mini-vans trunk, since we would be playing in a few hours. The rain had abated for our 4:00 PM game, but it would be sprinkling at the start of of our 7:00 match. The gridded plastic tiles allowed for drainage, but we been warned that a light sprinkle was the slickest of conditions to be playing in. Jason, Michelle Smellies husband, had started to coach us in the previous game. Before the third game, he asked if I would play defense. Im not sure why he decided to put me there, but I decided to make the most of it (even though it would mean I didnt get to play with my hockey soulmate Deb).
We came out very strong against Dunlop Billiards and the majority of play was in their zone. Most of of the players, sans Deb and Dawnn (whom actually embraced the conditions by sliding on her feet around the court), were playing more hesitantly. Even though we dominated the play, we found ourselves down 2-1 at the end of the second period. Jason had come over to commend me on my defensive skill (he wondered where it had come from which I guess means he thought I was kinda sucky until that point), when Moriah put in the tieing goal in the 3rd period. Overtime went without scoring and we found ourselves in a shootout. Dawnn was our first shooter, and had a beauty of top-corner goal across the grain. It was the only goal we would end up needing as Krista stopped the next 3 shots. Hooray! We were in the play-offs! Unfortunately, this meant we would be playing Rectangle Auto Supply again the next morning, since they had come in first place in the round-robin. We were off to get one of every dessert from Loobies.

Loobies was closed! Oh no! We ended up heading to the restaurant across the street. John Mousmoules, a gentleman we play with in San Diego, had come out to watch us play that day since he was home visiting family in Toronto and Barrie that week, joined us for a drink while we had dinner. It was after dinner that the injured labia requiring 3 stitches was discovered. One car would head to a nearby hospital and the other car headed back to the hotel to crash.
We finished up our leftover groceries for breakfast, checked out of our hotel and headed to the rink for our 10 AM game. The rain had passed and there was only a little dampness to the ground. We were all exhausted (late night and 3 games of hockeys in hand). Rectangle Auto Supply would quickly prove their dominance against us. Im not even sure what the final score of the game was (the scoreboard only would show a 5 goal differential, so it sat at 5-0 for the entire game). Tom, the league coordinator in Barrie, told us that the team from St. Catherines had won the championship 3 years in a row, minus the last year. He also said no team could really match their fire power in the tournament. We scratched our heads as to why we were slated to play against them in the initial round of play. Tom had coached us in Philadelphia, and had told us he thought we could contend in the A division. In hindsight, I think we should have been in the B division. We all thought that the level play in Philadelphia was more along the lines of play we saw in the B division in Barrie. As it turns out, Rectangle Auto Supply would lose in the finals in the first overtime 1-0 to another local Barrie team, Canada Cartage Beavers. I have to say Im a little shocked, since I hadnt seen a team there as good as the Rectangle Auto Supply, and I wonder if any of their players had gotten injured on their way to the final game. They only had 10 floor players to start with.

This is a quick update from Saturdays post.
Sometimes things dont go to plan. My first round in the Club Championships did not get off to a good start, I kept making bogeys and was struggling badly. I was four over after five holes and when I made another bogey at number 8 it was not looking good.
What did I do?
I followed my own advice. I didnt panic. I freed up my swing and stopped worrying about the poor shots, feeling uncomfortable and what other people were thinking. I recommitted myself to playing golf and this helped turn things around.
I made par on holes 9 through to 13 (which steadied the ship) then a much needed birdie on fourteen gave me a shot of confidence. I birdied the 17th and dropped no more shots for the day. I signed for a 75 (3 over). Not the best score Ive ever had but one of the most pleasing. Best of all I kept myself in contention. Im sitting in equal second and in a good position for next weeks round.
Its easy to read and write about this process but it takes real commitment to put it into practice during competition. Theres also no guarantee that by following it youll always avoid bad scores. All you do is maximise your chances of playing well - theres definitely no magic pill when it comes to playing better golf.
Until you can swing and play without fear (especially under pressure) youll never play your best golf. Learning this has been the hardest but most satisfying one of my career. Something worth striving for and more important than new technology or some quick fix golf tip from a magazine.

With recent polls showing Sen. Barack Obama's lead increasing nationwide and in several GOP-leaning states, some Republicans attending John McCain-Sarah Palin campaign rallies are showing a new emotion: rage.
At a rally in Minnesota on Friday, a woman told McCain: "I don't trust Obama. I have read about him and he's an Arab."

McCain shook his head and said, "No ma'am, no ma'am. He's a decent family man... citizen that I just happen to have disagreements with on fundamental issues. That's what this campaign is all about."

One man at the rally said he was "scared of an Obama presidency." McCain later told the man he should not fear Obama.

"I want to be president of the United States, and I don't want Obama to be," he said. "But I have to tell you, I have to tell you, he is a decent person, and a person that you do not have to be scared as President of the United States."

McCain's response was met with boos from the crowd.

When asked about these outbursts, McCain campaign manager Rick Davis said that he didn't know who those people were and if they were there as supporters or to disrupt the rallies.

A day earlier, the same type of hostility toward Obama was evident at McCain-Palin rallies.

"When you have an Obama, [House Speaker Nancy] Pelosi and the rest of the hooligans up there going to run this country, we have got to have our head examined. It's time that you two are representing us, and we are mad. So, go get them," one man told McCain at a town hall meeting in Waukesha, Wisconsin.

Another man was more pointed.

"And we're all wondering why that Obama is where he's at, how he got here. I mean, everybody in this room is stunned that we're in this position," another man said at Thursday's rally.

"I'm mad. I'm really mad. And what's going to surprise you, it's not the economy. It's the socialists taking over our country," one said.
McCain urged his supporters to be respectful of Obama.

"We want to fight and I will fight. But we will be respectful," he said. "I admire Sen. Obama and his accomplishments. I will respect him and I want everyone to be respectful, and let's make sure we are."
CNN contributor David Gergen, who has advised Democratic and Republican presidential administrations, said Thursday that the negative tone of these rallies is "incendiary" and could lead to violence.

"There is this free floating sort of whipping around anger that could really lead to some violence. I think we're not far from that," he said. "I think it's really imperative that the candidates try to calm people down."

On Friday, Obama said the "barrage of nasty insinuations and attacks" was a result of the Republican nominee's failed economic ideas.

"They can run misleading ads, they can pursue the politics of anything goes. It will not work. Not this time. I think that folks are looking for something different this time. It's easy to rile up a crowd, nothing's easier than riling up a crowd by stoking anger and division. But that's not what we need right now in the United States. The times are too serious," Obama said at a rally in Chillicothe, Ohio.

Recently, McCain's campaign launched a string of ads that question Obama's judgment and character.

The McCain campaign calls Obama "too risky for America" in a new Web ad that focuses on his political relationship with Bill Ayers, a founding member of the radical Weather Underground.

"Barack Obama and domestic terrorist Bill Ayers. Friends. They've worked together for years. But Obama tries to hide it," the announcer said in the 90-second ad.

The now-defunct Weather Underground was involved in bombings in the early 1970s, including attacks on the Pentagon and the Capitol. Obama was a young child at the time of the bombings.

Obama and Ayers, now a university professor, met in 1995, when both worked with a nonprofit group trying to raise funds for a school improvement project and a charitable foundation. CNN's review of project records found nothing to suggest anything inappropriate in the volunteer projects in which the two men were involved
Obama, in an April debate during the primaries, called Ayers "somebody who engaged in detestable acts 40 years ago, when I was 8."

At a rally Tuesday in Clearwater, Florida, Sarah Palin said Obama was being "less than truthful" about his ties to Ayers. "His own top adviser said they were 'certainly friendly.' ... I am just so fearful that this is not a man who sees America the way that you and I see America -- as the greatest source for good in this world," she said.

Palin told the crowd that she sees "a pattern in how our opponent has talked about one of his most troubling associations."
One member of the Palin audience in Jacksonville, Florida, Tuesday shouted out "treason." And at another rally in the state Monday, Palin's mention of the Obama-Ayers tie caused one member to yell out: "kill him" -- though it was unclear if it was targeted at Obama or Ayers.

At several recent rallies, Palin has stirred up crowds by mentioning the "liberal media." Routinely, there are boos at every mention of The New York Times and the "mainstream media," both of which are staples of Palin's stump speech.

Some audience members are openly hostile to members of the traveling press covering Palin; one crowd member hurled a racial epithet at an African-American member of the press in Clearwater, Florida, on Monday.

And at a McCain rally in New Mexico on Monday, one supporter yelled out "terrorist" when McCain asked, "Who is the real Barack Obama?" McCain didn't respond.
Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland, a Democrat, on Friday told voters that the McCain-Palin campaign "would want you to be afraid of Barack Obama."

Some Republicans have also been critical of the McCain campaign.

Former Michigan Gov. William Milliken, a Republican, told the Grand Rapids Press he was "disappointed in the tenor and the personal attacks on the part of the McCain campaign."

"He is not the McCain I endorsed," Milliken said Thursday.

Some anger found at McCain-Palin rallies is directed at McCain for a different reason.
"I am begging you, sir, I am begging you, take it to him," another supporter said to the Arizona senator at the Wisconsin rally.

McCain, however, seems torn. On one hand, he is going negative on the Ayers controversy.

"The point is, Sen. Obama said he was just a guy in the neighborhood. We know that's not true," he said at the rally in Wisconsin. "We need to know the full extent of the relationship because of whether Sen. Obama is telling the truth to the American people or not."

On the other hand, McCain is trying to focus on the economic downturn plaguing the country.

"But I also, my friends, want to address the greatest financial challenge of our lifetime with a positive plan for action," he added.

Also, the McCains said months ago they didn't want their son Jimmy -- a Marine serving in Iraq -- dragged into the campaign.

But on Thursday, Cindy McCain brought up her son.

She criticized the Illinois senator for voting against a bill to fund troops in Iraq, a regular line of attack from her husband's campaign.

"The day that Sen. Obama cast a vote not to fund my son when he was serving sent a cold chill through my body, let me tell you," she told a Pennsylvania crowd before introducing her husband and his No. 2.


The vote Cindy McCain is referencing came in May 2007, when Obama was one of 14 senators who voted against a war-spending plan that would have provided emergency funds for American troops overseas.

A fact check deemed the charge that Obama voted against troop funding "misleading.

R.E.M. has made such a big name for themselves with such albums as Automatic for the People and Document that they even got themselves inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as of last year on their first year of eligibility.
Being just over four years now since their last album Around the Sun R.E.M. has finally come out with some new in the form of Accelerate. Talking about new, this album totally takes R.E.M. in a whole new direction and feels like nothing they have ever tried before. After being together band wise for so many years now I guess they needed the break but all that time must have hit them somewhat hard because the entire album feels like an entire relearning process for them. It looks like they forgot where they last left off and just wanted to start fresh and bring about something entirely new experimenting with a whole bunch of different musical stylings to fit into the album.
One thing that youll notice right away is how much more guitar driven R.E.M. has become where basically each song is opened in by a huge booming electric guitar riff, not reminiscent of their older stuff looking back mainly at Automatic for the People. The album is also a lot more fast paced and not as atmospheric as their past albums either not leaving any space for any pauses in between lyrics to take it all in. Electric guitar has all but dominated the entire album as well not leaving much space for any of acoustic songs these days. Im not saying that theres anything wrong with a heavily electric guitar influenced album, all Im trying to say is that I miss songs such as or Man on the Moon that had a more slow acoustic feel to them than a fast paced electric one.
One thing that really dissapointed me about this album was how long it actually took me to start enjoying sme of the songs on the album. I had to listen through the album at least three times before I finally started to like some of the songs, emphasis on . The songs that I so far thoroughly enjoy inside and out on this album include Supernatural Superserious, Hollow Man, Mr. Richards, with the first two being the singles of the album itself. Supernatural Superserious feels like what I expected from R.E.M., its what I wish the entire album would have sounded like and its just such a catchy song that you cant help but singalong with it and enjoy yourself. Hollow Man is another song which I found to be just what I was hoping for from this album and found it to be reminiscent of earlier songs such times as Everbody Hurts or The Great Beyond and has a depressing slow beat to it but at the same time speeds up during certain parts making the song feel depressing yet uplifting at the same time. Lastly Mr. Richards I strangely liked right away even though this song felt like nothing Ive ever heard from R.E.M. before, but the more I listened to it, the more I found it sounding like something The Beatles would have written.
Something that still hasnt changed with the band is how beautifully poetic Michael Stipes lyrics are written. Somehow never really making sense, but left to so much interpretation that each song has its own meaning to each fan while containing a specially encrypted meaning for the band alone that will travel with them to their graves.
Suffice to say how much I was dissapointed with Accelerate, I found it to be a whole lot better than their last attempt with Around the Sun which I didnt even end up buying in the end just previewing the album at a local record shop. Accelerate is in fact probably their best album to date since drummer Bill Berry left the band and although I dont like the new direction R.E.M. was heading in with this new album I think it was just all part of the relearning process and Im hoping that their next album, which I hope to God doesnt take another four years to make, will be better than this.
Overall I didnt much care for how much experimenting R.E.M. did with each song and feel that they should get back to their roots of old but I do indeed love how guitar driven they have become with each riff being better than the last on each track. I miss the old stylings of R.E.M. but if this is the way that theyre going to go, Ill stick by them and hope for the best in the future. Hopefully this was just a relearning process for them but who knows in the end. I recommend previewing Accelerate before going full out on buying it, but if youre a huge R.E.M. fan such as myself and have been long awaiting this new album then all there is to it is just hitting up your local record store today and picking up a copy for yourself.

Work has begun on the new Wal-Mart store to be built north of Parker on State Route 95. On Sept. 30, crews began leveling ground at the site, which is located across Riverside Drive from the Moovayla Plaza Shopping Center.

Wal-Mart spokesperson Delia Garcia said the store would be approximately 100,000 square feet in size. She said this is about half the size of the old store in Lake Havasu City. The store will feature grocery and general merchandise items, and will include a pharmacy, a deli and a garden center.

When you got a lot to show, and not a lotta time, it's MONTAGE! MONTAGE! The Haitian babysits Hiro and Ando while Mama P flagellates them verbally. Ando knows it's a trick and is all oh hell no, you are not apologizing. However, Mama P knows exactly how to get Hiro excited (not the same way as she got his daddy riled up, though) and tells him that she knows he has the key to saving the world. It's buried very deep. Who's the hero and who's the villain? It's way to easy to trick Pikachu into thinking he's the only one who can save the world. I don't trust Mama P, but I'd love for her to sit in on salary negotiations with me. Please.

The friendship Ive had with the reclusive and elusive Eat Golf has been one of mystery.  Digital.  Virtual.  Though I knew him online, I never physically met a.k.a. Rich for years.  My relationship with this mysterious member of the original five golf bloggers was one of late night chat sessions about PHP code at 3am or the occasional email propping up cool golf blog posts.  But did Eat really exist?  Was he human?  Did he have seven inch long fingernails like Howard Hughes?  It took me nearly four years to find out.
I made some attempts to visit Eat in his which is what they call cities or neighborhoods in southern California.  I was foiled two years in a row by bad weather, and the fear of hooking up with an old girlfriend who broke my heart who lived in the area.  Chicken.  I wondered if Id ever meet Eat.  I wondered if Id be able to actually verify that he existed.  Could I verify that he was indeed, human?  Could I indeed back up with my own empirical evidence that Eat wasnt in the same class as UFOs and Big Foot?
I meet Eat
Last month in Vegas much of the mystery was uncovered, yet much more mystery unfolded.  I did in fact meet Eat Golf.  I did in fact have several (dozen) beers with this mysterious web genius who, after days of endless programming without sleep, was able to brilliantly create mega cool and productive golf web applications which did astounding things, like telling readers the quality level of the range balls at every golf course in the country.  Despite that brilliance Eat was somehow too inept to backup his files, causing the loss of years worth of work and thus making his blog post dated back on February 9th 2006.
I had a great time spending a couple of days with Eat.  He didnt have a room so I offered up the extra bed in my room at the Luxor.  He declined.  Hed spent the first night at some odd, off the strip place in Vegas which was $50/night.  Is that where he really stayed?  Are we sure he didnt stay at the Belagio or the Wynn?  Nobody really knows.
Eat Car

So do I have actual proof that I spent a couple of days with Eat?  Strangely enough, I have no photos of him.  I have a receipt from some bar in Vegas showing a couple of rounds of drinks.  I have nothing which could prove much of anything.  Why?  Why didnt I get a shot of us together?  Were long lost pals.  Were joined at the golf blog hip.  Were lost web geek brothers.  This is a terrible omission on my part, not getting a photo of us.  Rich is my pal and I fd up by not getting a pic of us hangin in Vegas.
I did however, get one shot which may be proof enough.  One pic which may convince the sceptics that Eat really does exist.  I shot a pic of Eats car.  Check out the bumper stickers in the back window.
