I read this book quickly and learned:
(1) Beyond the fact that I am too old to enter high finance, either as a trader or analyst, had I been so lucky in my twenties, I would not have lasted long. The deception and dirtiness involved are repellent. In light of the periodic economic destruction wrought by Wall Street, it is amazing that much of what Wall Street does is even legal. Perhaps I would have been momentarily comforted by the self-serving spin of Wall Street, the spin that points to Wall Streets role in providing money to the real economy (by allocating savings to investments) and providing a liquid secondary market in securities. But this is so much bullshit, a thin cover for an unchecked greed without regard for real-world consequences. (Maybe thats a little strong, but it does seem that the legitimate role of Wall Street has been eclipsed by attempts at creating money machines.)
(2) Lewiss self-awareness and complicity in this fraud makes me wonder how sincere his conversion is. He at times acknowledges a belief that he did wrong by his customers. We are meant to be on his side (its his book, after all). But if he convincingly fleeced his customers then, what prevents him from fleecing his readers now, telling us what we want to hear? We want to hear that Wall Street is an empty fraud with few good actors. And Lewis delivers. But not before he benefited mightily. I am reminded of St. Augustines prayer: Grant me chastity and continence, but not yet (da mihi castitatem et continentiam, sed noli modo).
(3) Nevertheless, the stories Lewis tells are instructive and serve as useful warning for anyone who invests. There is so much that a person must know to avoid getting screwed by Wall Street. Even if Wall Street is screwing institutional investors (pension funds, endowments), we are the ones who ultimately pay. The default attitude toward Wall Street must be distrust. In sum, Distrust, and verify. And buy cheap index funds.
Nevertheless, he is a good writer and gets off some good anecdotes and bon mots:
(1) Never agree to anything proposed on someone elses boat, or youll regret it in the morning (p. 67).
(2) Apparently you need to be an asshole to get by on Wall Street (see the story beginning on page 75). I am reminded of the popular advice for people who find themselves in prison: Attack someone on the first day to show everyone not to mess with you.
(3) The government is almost as responsible for creating the conditions for obscene Wall Street profits as Wall Street is in taking them (see Lewiss discussion of the changes in tax law that motivated thrifts to sell their loans beginning on page 103).
(4) Some people are born to be customers (p171).
(5) How to think about trading opportunities (pp 175-177) in reaction to world events.
(6) The story of how someone else took his trading idea and how he got his revenge.
(7) The story of how management kept their firm afloat when it should have been taken over.
(8) Luck may be more important than skill. How his company was in the right place and right time to take advantage of mortgage loans but not junk bonds.
(9) . . .when an investment banker starts talking about principles, he is usually also defending his interests and that he rarely stakes out the moral high ground unless he believes there is gold under his campsite (p 227).

How To Get Cheap The Travel Stick with DVD
I have been a member of Ebay for a while now and I find it brilliant, it is easy to join, all you need is a bank account and a few minutes to register for an Ebay account, you also have to set up a Paypal account which again only takes a few minutes and both are absolutely free, once you have done this you are up and running for both buying and selling on Ebay.
Auctions or Buy it now
You can either bid on items in the auctions or go to the buy it now section and get the item that you are after straight away, both ways are good, but sometimes in the auction you have to wait days for the listing to end, then again you can watch the item you want to buy in My Ebay section, which is at the top of your ebay home page, you can keep track of all your activites in this section, weather you are buying or selling, also you can log into your paypal account or make a list of your favourite sellers, this section is for your personal information on your ebay activities.
Paying for an item
When you buy an item and pay for it using, Paypal they pay the seller the amount required for you straight away, then they take it from your bank account a few days later, (usually about three days).
Then when you recieve your goods you leave feedback for the seller and they do the same for you, before buying or selling you can check a members feedback to see if it is positive or negitive, this is to show other members who the good Ebayers are.
Selling on Ebay
You can also sell any unwanted items you might have, again this is easy to do, just describe your item, choose what category it goes into and then add a picture of your item and thats your item listed.there is a small fee for this, but is only a few pence. approx 15p per picture added.
If you dont recieve your item
Goods not recieved
There is a section where you can go to open a dispute, if you have paid for goods but did not recieve them, then this helps you to get a refund, which gives peace of mind .
Ebay is good for bargains or for those hard to get items like The Travel Stick with DVD, although sometimes you are better of just to buy the item from the shop, as some things are nearly the same price anyway, although this does not happen all the time, you do get bargains very often, I would highly recomend it .

Liars Poker comes in a couple of different flavors. The first may be more comfortable as it is a tradition card game and the later is not. The game begins with each player starting with two quarters. Everyone is then dealt two cards down. The first player calls a poker hand. The next player has the option of either calling a hand which beats the previous hand or challenging the previous players call. If a person challenges the hand, then everyones cards are pooled to determine if the hand exists. If it does, the person who called the game loses one of his quarters and starts the next game, with only one card dealt to him. If it does not, the player who called the hand loses the quarter. After a player has their second quarter taken away, the player is out. Deck is reshuffled after each round. Game ends and the pooled change is awarded when only one person has a quarter left.
Liars poker is also a popular bar game that only requires a dollar bill to play. In the place of cards, the eight-digit serial number on the dollar bill (see below is blue) represents each The object is similar to the card versionto make the highest bid of a number that does not exceed the combined total held by all the players. The numbers are usually ranked in the following order: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0 (10) and 1 (Ace). For example, if the first player bids three 4s, he is predicting there are at least three 4s among all the players, including himself. The next player can bid a higher number at that level (three 5s), any number at a higher level (four 2s) or challenge. The end of the game is reached when a player makes a bid that is challenged all around. If the bid is successful, he wins a dollar from each of the other players, but if the bid is unsuccessful, he loses a dollar to each of the other players.

A lottery machine is the machine used to draw the winning numbers for a lottery.Early lotteries were done by drawing numbers, or winning tickets, from a container.
In the UK, numbers of winning Premium Bonds (which were not strictly a lottery, but very similar in approach) were generated by an electronic machine called ERNIE.
A popular type of modern lottery machine has a rotating drum with contrarotating arms inside. A number of balls, each with a possible winning number on, are dropped into the drum while it is spinning. A mechanism then extracts a pre-determined number of balls to be the winning numbers, one at a time. Machines of this type are used in Lotto type games, such as Lotto 6-49, Lotto 6/48 or other formulas. See the UK National Lottery.
Because of the massive payoff for a successful cheat, lottery machines are subject to strict security measures. In some cases there are several machines and several sets of balls, and the combination to be used is selected at random just before the draw.

EBAY! well I started going on ebay when a friend recommended it as a great auction site to me. I went on there and never realised just how many different things you could bid for, they do everything.
The buzz I got was amazing when I placed my first bid and then recieved an email to confirm that I had successfully placed the highest bid and that the item in question was mine.
Well after that I went on ebay every day, scanning through the endless lists of things to sell. I started placing bids on many items, even to the point that when I won the bids I couldnt remember the items in question, thats how bad I got!.
I ended up spending far more than really I could afford but it was just so easy and exciting, its so hard not to get carried away in the thrill of it all. I spent on average around 6 hours a day every day on ebay. Put it this way my husband was not amused.

The abandonment wound, stored deep within the limbic brain, is easily triggered. You feel its raw nerve twinge when you fail to get recognition at work, a friend forgets to invite you to a party, or a date you thought was special did not call back. When being left is the trigger, core abandonment fears erupt. Stress hormones course through our bodies, compelling even the strongest among us to feel desperate and dependent. However self-sufficient we think we are, we suddenly feel we cant live without him/her.
Being left also kicks up our control issues. The breakup wasn't our choice. Someone else cast us into this aloneness by choosing not to be with us. We feel at loss of our personal power to compel another person's love. "I must be unlovable and unworthy for him to discard me like that." Abandonment is similar to other types of bereavement, but its grief is complicated by rejection and betrayal. We turn the rage against ourselves, accounting for the severe depression that accompanies heartbreak. When we blame the breakup on our supposed inadequacies, we abandon ourselves. We automatically think to ourselves, There must be something wrong with me that makes me not worth keeping.
We emerge not only disconnected from self-love, but with a heightened fear of abandonment. If one person can discard us, we fear others will do the same to us in the future. Rather than dissipate, this fear tends to incubate. Its insecurity burrows deep within us where it sabotages our relationships. The fear of being left makes it more difficult to let go. The rejection creates nagging conflict; closure remains incomplete. We feel unjustly dismissed and we long for an opportunity to vindicate the hurt. We are left alone to grapple with the broken pieces. Mixed with our rage is a desire for our ex to come back to take away the hurt and rejection.
The paradox of abandonment is the tendency to idealize the abandoner. He or she emerges in our imaginations as a powerful figure. We assume she must be very special to have caused this much torment simply by being absent. The intense craving is confusing to our limbic brain. Stress hormones course through our bodies, causing a heightened response to anything related to our ex for a long time. An important thing to understand is there are five universal stages that accompany the loss of love: Shattering, Withdrawal, Internalizing, Rage, and Lifting. As we make our way through these stages of grief and recovery, we build self-esteem, resolve fear and self-doubt and restore the spirit.
The Five Stages of Abandonment are: 1. Shattering: Severing of love-connection, devastation, shattering of hopes and dreams. The emotions are shock, panic, despair, feeling you can't live without your love. 2. Withdrawal: You're in painful withdrawal of love-loss, as intense as heroin withdrawal. The emotions are yearning, craving, obsessing, longing for your ex's return. 3. Internalizing: As you try to making sense of the rejection, you doubt and blame yourself. Idealizing the abandoner at your own expense, narcissistic injury sets in and fear incubates. 4. Rage: Reversing the rejection and having retaliatory feelings. Displacing anger on friends who don't understand or are critical of the abandoner leads to more unhealthy action. 5. Lifting: Rising out despair, life begins to distract you. You begin to open to love again and all its possibilities. You through all the stages over and over until you emerge out the end of the tunnel a changed person capable of greater life and love than before.

The e-bay auction community is to date the best online auction that I have come across, i have looked at others like yahoo and freeserve auctions but i must say that they do not even come close to e-bay. They also offer many alternatives for payment such as pay-pal, bid-pay, escrow aswell as the traditional of methods such as cheque or credit card.
Own experiences
I have current bought 12 items through e-bay. This computer was one - I also bought a laser printer, 2 network cards, some books, digital camera, laptop and some blank DVD discs to name a few of them, which were all bargains.
Other peoples experiences
I do however know someone that shelled out a lot of money for a DVD burner that never arrived (this is still currently being investiaged) - he did however claim on the e-bay insurance and got an almost total refund which i believe to the total cost of the item minus £30. The insurance took around a month to come through which was an anxious time for him. He did tell me however that the person who he had the transaction with was a person with a (0) sunglasses rating, so a word of warning for anybody using e-bay or other similar online auctions is to make sure that you completely trust the person/people that you are dealing with a
nd try to deal with the companies that sell on e-bay.
Rating
9/10 - no problems so far!
I have left some auction prices below for Clover OB220 B W Outdoor Sun Visor Camera and other items you may be interested in.

Gamblers Anonymous is an international organization of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other to solve their common problem and help others to recover from a gambling problem. The only requirement for GA membership is a desire to stop gambling.
The GA group is based on the Alcoholics Anonymous model which brings together people with similar addictive behaviors and uses as its structure the practice of the Twelve Steps and the Twelve Traditions.
Successful recovery from compulsive gambling in this context seems to depend on the following variables:
1. The degree of hopelessness that the member feels when he arrives. Open-mindedness to the GA program of recovery is often proportional to the desperation being experienced by the new member. If a person has already explored other methods of controlling or stopping his gambling and has been unsuccessful, he is more apt to listen to the GA method.
2. A willingness to be honest with other members about their gambling. The compulsive gambler tends to minimize the damage that their gambling has caused. This is a strategy that all gamblers use in order to live with their problem, as often the real implications of what they are doing are too horrible to contemplate. But if a member can be honest about the pain that their gambling is actually creating, their motivation will be increased to find a solution. Such honesty is possible if the member senses that GA is really offering a way out.
3. Identification with other members. In the GA context, members tell their stories about their gambling and what they have done in order to stop gambling. After awhile, it is possible to see the similarity beneath all the stories, as far as the progressiveness of the dis-ease goes and the futility of other methods used to stop gambling. What emerges from such a reading of those stories is an awareness in the new member that what he has been suffering from is actually a definable condition with a definable solution. The new member can then draw the conclusion that if those members have overcome their gambling problem, perhaps I can too. Hope for oneself is felt and this energy can be used to pursue the solution. Conversely, those members who are still at the point where they are trying to devise personal solutions to outwit their gambling or are looking for hints as to how to gamble will hear the stories in such a way so as to justify their own continued gambling, i.e., At least Im not as bad as that guy.
4. Accepting that the solution has a spiritual componet and a willingness to explore the solution in that context. In the broadest of terms, compulsive gambling can be thought of as a The gambler often finds himself acting against his best intentions and is puzzled by his seemingly powerlessness to just not gamble. The compulsion to do so is experienced as a powerful urge and seems to have a life of its own within the gamblers mind. The gambler uses his willpower to try and control the power of his compulsive gambling but is ultimately always unsuccessful. The GA program acknowledges this power and admits that it cannot be controlled by the individual. What can be done is for the gambler to acquire a stronger, competing power in order to supercede the power of gambling. This is the ultimate goal of the Twelve Steps. GA is not offering the traditional religious solution that one might associate with such a discussion but, rather, asks that the individual formulate a personal spirituality that might or might not include traditional religious componets. With all successful GA members, on some level, they have found a source of strength beyond their own unaided wills that has enabled them to stop gambling.
5. Regular attendance at meetings.

in between its debut as a Broadway musical in 1947 and its appearance as a film in 1968. After 21 years, its theme of racial tension in the American South was no longer cutting edge, and the fact that its heroes are a group of sharecroppers called the Rainbow Valley Tobacco Cooperative dates it even further. Add a number of subplots and the heavy hand of a 29-year-old Francis Ford Coppola directing his first and only musical, and the two-and-a-half-hour running time feels bloated. Hermes Pan (best known for the classic Astaire-Rogers movies) is credited with choreographing the overbusy musical numbers, but he was reportedly overruled by Coppola at every turn. Still, there is a lot to enjoy in this movie, most notably Fred Astaire in his last lead role in a musical. Fred plays Finian McLonergan, an Irishman who has traveled to America in hopes of planting a pilfered pot of gold near Fort Knox and watching it grow. Even at 69, Fred shows he is still capable of a sprightly step and warbling Look to the Rainbow. Another plus is the casting of 60s pop icon Petula Clark as his daughter, as she sings with an unaffected loveliness. Finally, the score by Burton Lane and E.Y. Harburg includes two of the best Broadway songs ever writtenOld Devil Moon and How Are Things in Glocca Morra?as well as the comic ditty When Im Not Near the Girl I Love.
