I cant claim to be either a professional eBay user, or even a semi-professional eBay user, but I have used it quite a lot, both as a buyer, and to a lesser extent as a seller, but maybe, just maybe theres some advice in here that novices might find useful.
Ill also touch upon Paypal, which, although it is another organisation, being a payment processor not an auction site, just so happens to be part of the same parent company as eBay, and so the two are inexorably linked, seemingly.
WHAT IS eBAY?
Well, its nowt but a damned-great car-boot sale on the internet with all that this implies. You can buy things there or sell things. Some sellers are traders, others are private. Id imagine that a larger proportion of buyers are private, unless a crafty trader sees a bargain they can sell for more later!
It carries with it, just like a car boot sale, one huge caveat -
KNOW YOUR PRICES..AND KEEP YOUR HANDS IN YOUR POCKETS
err, thats TWO HUGE caveats, sorry, I didnt expect the Spanish Inquisition.
Its very easy to assume that an open air market is cheaper than conventional retail, and the same applies here. Time and time again, people buy at markets, only to find theyve paid the bog-standard High Street price.
So many times Ive checked the Amazon price for something on eBay to find that its only a little higher than buying a possibly second-hand version of it, say a camera, on eBay.
I put this down to the fact that amateurs selling used electronics sometimes have an inflated view of the items current worth; lets say half of what they paid for it.
To be fair, this rule-of-thumb works fine for most inanimate objects with the notable exception of modern technology.
For example, the Casio 3.4 mega-pixel camera I paid £700 for, 5 years ago, is now virtually worthless, having been surpassed by even the most entry level digital cameras, some with 5 mega-pixels and price tags of £70. You need to be realistic about these things, and agree never to be an again if you dont want to get caught like this.
Then again, if an electronic item works and you have no use for it, dont wait for it to go faulty, sell it; just dont expect to get a lot for it!
In the same way as its possible to get carried away on the spur of the moment (heh, its a market, it has to be cheaper, hasnt it?), dont get caught up in the thrill of the chase and bid more than you intended just to get one up on the second highest bidder, who may, very sensibly have stuck at a level theyve researched as being worth paying.
Quite often, you, as the second highest bidder will be offered the goods at your price just because youve met some invisible ceiling price that the seller had in mind, and theyve got more than one of whatever it was you were bidding for. Anyway, it saves them the expense of re-advertising - Ill come to fees later.
This happened to me a while back. I was prepared to pay £150 and no more for a Canon Ixus 750 from the official Canon Refurbished site where shop-returns are repacked as new and guaranteed by Canon for a full year. I was outbid at the last moment by someone prepared to pay £165 but I still got the camera, warranty and all for my price because they had nine of them for sale. In this case, I was also aware that I was buying a superseded model (now the Ixus 900 Titanium), but someone buying on a whim could feel cheated when they find its not the latest item.
Dont just know your prices; know your product variants too!
I have left some auction prices below for High Polish Chrome 75th Anniversary Commemorative and other items you may be interested in.

Ebay is the biggest online auction site on the internet . It has millions of registered users all over the world. All of which want to be able to purchase a bargain or get rid of unwanted goods.
To buy/sell on ebay, you have to become a registered user and own an ebay account. The sign up process takes around 5-10 minutes and will ask details about yourself. You will have to confirm your membership through an email acount. Once this account has been activated, you can start buying or selling
Before you are able to sell on ebay, you need to set a Paypal account up. The paypal account will deal with the sending and receiving of they buyers fees. Before selling an item on ebay,
you need to look at others selling similar items and decide if you want to put a minimum price on your item. You can include an auction price of under a pound if you want to or you can decide to put a minimum selling price on your item.
Postage and packing is calculated at a seperate cost. Ebay does include a Postage Calculator that allows the user to calculate how much postage and packaging is going to cost . TThis allows the customer to straight away be able to see the price of Postage and Packaging
When selling an item on ebay, i go through what is known as quick sell. It does exactly what it says. You will first need to think of a catchy description of your item. You have the chance to put a picture of the item on whilst also including a brief description A basic listing for 7 days costs £0.10 with an additional fee of £0.15 being charged if a photograph is used. You can amend the ebay listings once a listing has been confirmed.
When you see an item you would like to buy, you simply click to start bidding. Ebay asks you make your maximum bid. You will need to carefully watch this item to keep track of the bids been made.
If you are a regular ebay user you could invest in an ebay shop at £6 per month this allows a prospective buyer to look at other items you have on sale
Summary: easy touse, sell unwanted goods
I have left some auction prices below for Sony XS LB10S Shallow mount sealed truck enclosure with one 10 subwoofer and other items you may be interested in.

So this will be my first experience. I need your help. If Im going to show up at the butt crack of dawn, it had better be for a good reason. I need to make a sign. What should my sign be? Should I be trashing Graham Watson for her bandwagon jumping? Should I be poking fun at Lee Corsos lisp? Should it be a simple and understated Boise State logo? (Actually, I cant draw so unless I can track down transparencies and an overhead projector, that one probably wont work.)
A few suggestions: if its going to have words, it needs to not have very many so its legible. It needs to be about Boise State, although it needs to not be too Boise State specific so that the larger audience will get it. Also, it needs to be funny (this obviously trumps anything else). Leave your suggestions in the comments or email them to me at OneBroncoNationUnderGod@gmail.com.
On to the picks. Last week had its ups and downs, but I was right about Georgia (we can forget about the TCU pick).
(8) BYU (-28) at Utah State
BYU picked a good year to go undefeated. All the BCS conference opponents on their schedule suck, the rest of the MWC conference is helping them out by beating up on Pac-10 teams, and top teams are falling. Can Utah State help out the WAC? Unfortunately, I dont think their win over Idaho is going to be a launching point for their season.
Pick: BYU
Oregon State at (15) Utah (-11.5)
The other MWC darling faces off against the Pac-10 cinderella. Oregon State comes off their huge win over USC and travels to Utah to take on a pretty good Utes team. Normally, Id think this would be a classic letdown/trap game, however, Oregon State has had an extra few days to calm down and prepare for Utah thanks to the Thursday start of the USC game. I dont know if Oregon State can win, but an 11.5 point spread is awfully high. Im looking for Oregon State to keep it close.
Pick: Oregon State
(13) Auburn (-4.5) at (19) Vanderbilt
1984 was the last year that Vanderbilt was ranked. That lasted for one week. This years ranking has lasted for two weeks due to a bye. Things are looking up. Auburn played LSU tough but I just cant look over that 3-2 game versus Mississippi State. Auburn will try and play a physical, grind it out game, and Vandy can win that game.
Pick: Vanderbilt
(14) Ohio State at (18) Wisconsin (-1.5)
I hate the Big 10 (I do make exclusions for Illinois). They are overrated and slow. Tradition means nothing if you suck. As much as I hate Ohio State, theres a reason that theyve gone undefeated the past two years in the Big 10 theyre the best overrated, slow team in the Big 10. I do think that Terrell Pryors speed will cause Wisconsin issues.
Pick: Ohio State
(23) Oregon at (9) USC (-16.5)
USC has played about one game each year where theyve been unmotivated and unfocused and lost to a less talented team. I think its safe to say that game was last week. I was hoping that Oregon would be able to sneak out a win in this game, but I just dont see how a porous pass defense like Oregon showed against Boise State can match up against a USC team that will be coming out hard.
Pick: USC
Nevada (-24.5) at Idaho
If a teams only win comes against a I-AA team, is it still a win? That might be a question Idaho fans are asking themselves at the end of this year. I mean, it must be tough to build a program when former career 11-35 coaches are being plucked away for NFL jobs.
Pick: Nevada
Hawaii at (22) Fresno State (-22.5)
Fresno State, I hate you. You get all the preseason love. Every once in awhile you get a big win over a BCS team. You also never cover for me. Now Im faced with a dilemma this week. Do I go with a smart pick considering that Hawaii cant decide on a quarterback and the games in Fresno? Why must you do this to me?
Pick: Fresno State
Louisiana Tech at (17) Boise State (-24.5)
The game that took forever to get here. I must admit, as much as it sucks to sit around on a Saturday with no Boise State game to watch, it was a nice midweek surprise to wake up this morning and think ve got a game today!. Note to Gene Bleymaier, this little bit of jubilation does not make up for having to rearrange weeknight plans or having to continually answer the question from friends Who does Boise State play? with re not playing today. Were playing Wednesday/Thursday/Friday. Anyways, about the line. Earlier this week, it was hovering around 22 points. Now its popped up to 24.5. Im going to have to stick with my head here and realize that Boise State has yet to cover as a favorite this year. Until this changes, Im going to have to go with my head.

(9) Alabama at (2) Georgia (-7)
The game everyone is talking about this week. Its pretty simple to me. I dont think Georgia is that good. Alabama has been scary good this year. I do hate to put any trust in Nick Saban or John Parker Wilson, but oh well.
Pick: Alabama
(23) TCU at (3) Oklahoma (-18.5)
Oklahoma has looked incredibly dominant so far this year. However, TCU does have history against Oklahoma and have won their last two games in Norman. I dont necessarily believe that TCU can win this outright, but 18.5 points is an awful lot. Im betting TCU can keep it close.
Pick: TCU
Fresno State (-7.5) at UCLA
Yep, Fresnos still ranked in the AP poll. Yep, it took them 4 OTs to beat Toledo. Yep, they were the only thing keeping me from a perfect week last week. Theres a reason that Fresno has never won a WAC title (besides Boise State dominating them), and it has to do with the inconsistency they showed last week. UCLA is bad though, really bad.
Pick: Fresno State
New Mexico (-3) at New Mexico State
Huge intrastate rivalry in New Mexico. Make sure to check out Bleed Crimson for all the coverage you crave. Whats that? They care more about volleyball than football over there? I guess if Hal Mumme was our coach, we might feel the same way.
Pick: New Mexico due to Bleed Crimsons apathy
Nevada at UNLV (-4)
Its really difficult to build a national championship resume when other members of your conference dont hold up their end of the bargain. Is it too much to ask for Nevada to be decent and help us out? This will be Nevadas first game in three weeks that isnt against a ranked opponent. I havent seen anything yet to expect anything different.
Pick: UNLV
Idaho at San Diego State (-11)
Poor Idaho. They just cant seem to catch a break. Making national headlines for all the wrong reasons. Part of me wishes that Idaho was good to have that rivalry that many other teams have. Most of me, however, just wants them to go back to I-AA.
Pick: San Diego State
San Jose State at Hawaii (-3)
Could the time difference, the vacation locale, and the crazy locals throw off San Jose States game? Nah, Hawaiis going to be all hopped up on Coca-Cola.
